What kind of tournament were you registering for? Some Tournaments have Rating Restrictions, or it could just have been a hiccup in the systems, but yes as a platinum member you do get unlimited tournaments :) Have you tried any others?
Why can I not register for a tournament?

I tried several, including those for my rating as well as opens. I tried through different links--the "tournaments" list, the "play another" when mine was over, the trophy icons in the GAMES tab. I closed the browser and tried again 3-4 times. Nothing worked. And it appears that others ARE currently playing in the system, so the hiccups may be affecting only me. This is not truly "unlimited tournaments."
Some tournaments are by "invite only".

You should submit a ticket to the support system here on Chess.com, hopefully they can troubleshoot for you.
Are we referring to online tournaments or live tournaments? If online, the reason is simple. You haven't played any online games yet. Almost every single tourney requires a minimum number of games to be played. Play 5 online games first. Then you will be able to join as many tournaments as you like.
why is "registration not available" for tournaments? i'm a platinum member, i'm supposed to get unlimited tournaments.
