Confused by answer to chess.com exercise

Could someone please explain why I'm supposed to take the knight rather than the rook in this exercise?

 

Edit: I didn't know those exercises were taken from actual games. I saw that when I embedded it here. Turns out taking the knight was mate in 3. Come on... If I would have been able to calculate that, I wouldn't have to do these exercises...
