First of all, I'm not insulting you. Second, you're calling me a patzer?

Not you, superchessmachine.

Pulpofeira

Well, we all are.

Ok... then I'll let the two of you sort things out.

Any other experiences?

Yeah, kids cry.  You actually brought up a good point that many others have complained about.  Enough that, the chess tournaments around here tried to separate out the kids from adults sections by having them on different dates; I think that happened only once because there were not enough adults to make it economically viable.

Now, at least you don't have to PLAY those crying kids... unlike me.  At my rating, I play them and gave a draw when one seemed to about to cry on me after he blundered badly : )

adults cry silently

Being able to concentrate despite disturbances gives you an advantage over many opponents. Learn that skill.

and with great style

Kids. This is one of the drawbacks of modern chess. In opens you have kids running all over the place, and even beating the adults. But kids will be kids regardless, as the crying shows too clearly. I am all for having adult-only tournaments.

You people talk as if there has been an epidemic of crying children destroying chess tournaments. So far, it's on kid in one round bothering one person. Big deal. Kids don't beat adults, chess players beat other chess players. If he player moves than you, he deserves to win. If you can't take it, I'm sure that many assisted living facilities  are available

ONE PERSON!?

THERE WAS AN EPIDEMIC OF TIMEOUTS!!!

AND THE KIDS DIDN'T KNOW THAT THERE WAS A MARATHON GAME STILL RUNNING, SO THEY JUST FELT FREE TO CRY. LIKE TAKE A LOOK AROUND, IDIOTS! (not you guys) I HEARD APPOXIMATELY THREE DISTINCT SOUNDS!!!

Perhaps you're just a bit too delicate for OTB play

True, but one time a fire alarm went off during play seven months ago and I lost because I didn't have a coat since it was in late December. But I am more delicate for online play so that is why I stopped playing bullet and blitz.

And besides, this is only half complaint. Half interesting story.

Not sure in more civilized countries, but here the main problem with kids in the hall is that, once several of them have finished, their families suddenly think they are in a bar celebrating a first communion or something like that.

Luckily, I am good enough to regularly play in adult tournaments. Still, a little kid 200 points below me has drawmongered against me, and since he was white, he simply forced an easy draw. That is in another forum that I created.

"Drawmongered" is a weird new word. As far as I can see, it means: "Although I was more highly rated than my opponent, I am incapable of defeating him!"

True, but my opponent was white and simply countered my Sicilian Dragon with a drawing line.

There are boring Sicilians and exciting Philidors and Caro-Kans.

I remember when I was a very young man, trying to play chess in the basement as the Germans were bombing London. I could not believe all of the noise they were making while I was trying to play a freakin' game of chess. Those rude bomber pilots gave Nazis a bad name that day, in my opinion.

I decided that I will be getting the book "Art of Attack in Chess" since all the coaches recommend it.

EDIT: Whoops, wrong thread!

SERIOUSLY?! WOW. That must have been very loud, but the sounds of bombs are much lower than the sound of children crying.
