King can't move anywhere, because it is surrounded (smothered) by its own pieces and a knight delivers a check and the knight cannot be captured. In such a case it is also a check mate.
A perfect example of smothered checkmate is imagine white has the following pieces. King A1, Rook B2 and Pawns on A2 and B2. Now place blacks Knight on C3

Smothered is when u order onions in the hash browns at Waffle House
once I did one that wasn't mate but the only way to stop it was to take with the queen so I won a queen for a knight
