Maybe adding a popularity count or waiting time estimate to the buttons so people get the option to choose their game based on those factors. I wouldn't know how to incorporate that in a user interface without making it overwhelming, but maybe there's someone here with a background in UX / UI with some good ideas.
10+5 should be a standard time format
In my opinion the ideal online time format, common in other sites, the perfect spot between 10+0 and 15+10. I, and I assume a lot of other people, are tired of getting flagged in 10 minute games. The custom search for 10+5 games takes too long. I'm sure if it was made standard a lot of people would play it.
people are flagged in rapid?
Of course, people are flagged in any time format without increment.
One more game showing why I want 10|5. Trying to take my time to not blunder, or blunder as little as possible, making my way to another winning endgame but having no time left to finish. Maybe you like having zero time left for your endgame, hoarding your seconds away like a starving rat. I don't.
FIDE defines rapid as longer than 10 minutes. Rapid OTB for top players is usually 25 10.
I vote 10 0 for blitz. 10 5 and up for rapid. 10 0 still gives one the chance to flag/dirty flag an opponent.
We have 5 5 blitz. Tough to flag an opponent who has a lost position. Gotta beat the better defenders with mate. All part of the fun.
Repeatedly creating the custom settings is not as annoying as having to wait minutes to be matched with a player of your rating range, so a preset is the only practical solution.
You're making the 'build it and they will come' mistake. Yes, chances are there will be a slight increase in games in the specific configuration represented by that preset if added, but there is absolutely no indication it will significantly decrease the waiting time for an opponent match - how many respondents does this thread have?... Now if it was hundreds, thousands, then you might have a point.
And besides, it's very subjective what is and isn't annoying. I don't mind waiting a minute for a match, but it annoys the crap out of me having to tell a computer the same thing over and over again.
