Abandoning Games

Chess.com does actively discourage it. Anyone who disconnects frequently will get assigned to a special pool where they will play similar players. You also have the chance to report such players.

I do report them, lately it seems it is happening a lot and I was just wondering if there was anything stopping people from doing this.

Potreste verificare? Grazie.

It doesn't happen to you every other game. I've played thousands of games on chess.com over the years and only experienced a couple dozen abandonments/disconnections, and even less in daily games, maybe 4-5.
Your last 3 live game wins were 2 resignations and 1 checkmate, so no it's not happening to you every other game. Don't make the issue seem bigger than it already is.
Also I'm not sure why people like you keep complaining about this. If anything a disconnection is even better for you, because that way u don't have to play the game out till you win. You just wait 30 seconds, which is completely negligible, and get ur rating points and can move on. If anything you should be HAPPY over disconnections, it means you can start a new game more quickly.
When people abandon and you have to wait out the time limit it counts as a resignation. You don't know anything about me and just because your experience has been different means nothing to me. Also it is very possible that this is something much more common lower rating as you are some 600 points above me. Please don't come on to these forums that are created by someone else and tell them they are lying. I also would like to point out that I said about every other game I win.

People don't abandon game on purpose.. I have been disconnected several times by chess.com network. The other person might conclude that I have abandoned the game

A lot of players here come from countries that have limited internet infrastructure (India, Pakistan, Philippines, etc.) You can see their signal strength beneath their names. One red bar is not a good sign. I've asked chess.com several times to put a filter in so you can only play against opponents who have strong internet signals, but they refuse to do so (probably because of the high number of members who don't).

No one has provided any statistics, so we are all working off our own personal experiences.
The original poster claimed, "I don't understand why this happens about every other live game I win."
Based on my personal experiences over 8000 blitz games, that seems hard to believe. I think that that's all Redgirlz was saying.
I would have to agree with her. It happens but not that often.
On the other hand, OP points out that it might be much more common among sub-1000 rated blitz players. That might be the case. The sub-1000 blitz pool includes many brand new players whose rating is on the way down. They might be more likely to abandon games.
It would give good evidence that chess.com servers are not responsible.
Two years ago,CEO Erik reported some statistics on the popularity of various time controls and the win/loss/draw rates with some data about timeouts and abandonments. He didn't include data by rating.

On 10 minute games, about 6% were abandoned. That seems about right.

Here is the chart from that article:
It seems like the abandonment statistics over all are not in line with what the original poster suggested.

That seems about right. I notice a lot of abandoned games on the site I play, but I think it's similar to people who gamble. They might win some money 6.3% of the time, but they sure do remember it well, as if it happens MUCH more often than it really does. They often completely forget what happens the other 94.7% of the time.

The statistics came from 1.5 million live games. They may possibly be more accurate than your personal experience.

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned.
I ABANDON GAMES ALL THE TIME.
Mainly because my boss pops in the office. I don't have time for the extra mouse clicks to resign. Maybe if there were a hot key I could do it.
Can you ever forgive me? I know God can.

Whew! That's a relief. Hey, wait a minute!

I have participated in quite a few competitive scenes, mostly video games. It is a common thing for people to abandon a losing fight. I do it too sometimes. I resign. That is how you are supposed to give up. I am just unhappy that people will specifically close the window or app instead of just resigning.

The big thing is it most often happens after a blunder. I know it happens sometimes but once I make a winning move or they make a losing blunder, just resign.

If there were a quick button to resign with a single mouse click, that would be doable. The trouble with resign is it pops up a window to confirm. Well that's already two additional mouse clicks with delays between. Clicking on a tab on the browser to get the game OFF my screen only takes half a sec by comparison. You must understand, people do not abandon to be rude, they abandon for job security.
