Add a classical rating category

We have a rapid, blitz, bullet, and a daily rating but why very slow time controls like 45/45, 60/0, 90/30 etc are mix within the rapid category. I think that chess.com should copy other chess app and sites and add the classical category. People please support this.

I like this idea too. Daily games are the only long format (other than rapid, but even 15 minute games are considered rapid, so this is broad too), but I have trouble taking chess seriously when it is asynchronous. I much rather play live games - even if the time control is 90/30. Obviously, chess.com will have to find a balance in abort timer (to prevent abandoning games), but classical time control would be a nice addition to this site happy.png

I agree. I played a 90 | 30 game on this site recently and it was marked as rapid. I don't think a 90 minute games is so rapid...

I agree that there should be classical format so that longer time controls are not lumped in like clay into rapid. I like OTB tournaments with longer time controls such as G/90 or some sudden death format, and I would support the same formats Chess.com. In the meantime, head over to lichess for classical game time controls.

Thanks for the support, hope chess.com read this and add the classical category with the abort timer. Yes I know lichess have classical but I would prefer one in this site plus all the pretty features and look chess.com has.

This would be a great addition

I am not sure, but I believe that problem is that people massively play blitz and bullet time controls compared to rapid. That is the reason they've moved 10|0 from blitz to rapid category in order to boost the number of people who plays rapid. People like me who plays 60|0 are minority in online chess, so making separate category for us seems unrealistic and impractical from chess.com point of view.

I may be wrong but it seems that way to me.

I get that it’s effort... but it doesn’t seem Like a massive coding effort either.

i thought the shift of 10 0 to rapid wasn’t about increasing games but accounting for an existing population shift in terms of that time control?

Yes, but based on the ratings and the opponents played against: I wouldn't be surprised if this was "his account" for students of his or something.

I fully support the addition of a classical rating category.

I am completely dumbfounded that such a category doesn't exist.

+1, especially after putting 10 minutes games into the rapid. Having 90+30 in the same category is very strange.

Taktakower

I support this addition of a normal or classical time control.

I would like to see a separate classical rating myself. That way I can track the progress that I have made in Rapid and Classical. Right now its just muddled

I agree, 45/45 and 60/0 just don't feel the same as other rapid time controls like 15/10 or 20/0, or even 30/0. A classical rating would be great. The only problem with longer time controls is that opponents sometimes let their time run out in lost positions, and I have to wait 30 or 35 minutes.

Yeah I agree with this. Would be a great change. I'd actually try out long time controls if there were classical ratings.
