Does anyone here know why?

Carefully read the title and OP, and then respond.

You can play 1 hour per side or 45|45 but, for the time being, those are classified as rapid.
Yeah, but for practical reasons, here they can say that classic is anything above 30 minutes per side or something like that. After all, 45|45 is much different than say, 10 minutes per side.
45|45 is actually a longer time control than 60 minutes per side, except in case where the game is pretty short.
If the naming of the rating is an actual problem, they can call it something else rather than classic.
I guess so. Chess.com ratings only have any relevance here anyway.
It could only be a good thing if it encouraged new/young players to play longer time controls. It is a bit depressing that the average player here is less than 800 with little hope of improving much playing nothing but speed chess.
Yeah, there is no downside here. The only effect it may have is that a bit more people would play longer games, and that is certainly not bad for their chess. And it is better for those who are playing longer games at the moment, because more competition means more quality in the long run.
+1
i wont be affected, but this makes total sense
30 mins should be the division, either way it goes
also in my 15|10 games, it doesnt take that long
How hard is to add a classical rating category? If it is about amount of people, I think there are thousands of people playing very slow chess everyday and at the same time there are chess variants open that almost nobody play, but there are still there! I still love all the variants, they can add checkers too if they want, the more the better! But please add a classical rating category.

Yes thank you please! I don't know why chess.com doesn't do this. It's really the best way to practice for tournaments.

That is great. Is there an estimate on when roughly we could be seeing this? In a few months, or a year from now maybe? Thank you for the news.
Also, introducing a default 30|30 time control would be great for us that like to play longer games, since, as nklristic pointed out, 45|45 usually lasts longer than 60 mins.

Yeah, 30 minutes with increment would be good idea. It would be probably nice for those who already plays 30 minute games and want something a bit longer but don't really want to go for 45|45 or 1 hour per side.
Though 30|30 is practically equal in duration to 60|0 for games that reach endgame stage, so perhaps 30|20 is a bit more realistic or something like that.
I do want to add yes,The quality of chess goes up but since it would not be an instant hit as OTB classical is also falling in popularity in favour of rapid and blitz not many people would be sending challenges daily maybe total of 100 people would put out open challenges daily. If it's maybe something you can do against friends then I might be fine with using it as I know these people and they aren't randoms who may or may not be cheating! Imagine all of your calculation to go out the window because they are using stockfish 10 or 13.
