I and others think you should put this in, also maybe even more advanced controls like banning people from bad IPs or things that drop connection too much.
Banning IP addresses doesn't really work unless you're going to ban the IP ranges of the VPN providers, for which there are also perfectly reasonable use cases.
Chess.com has always kept the game seek filters as simple as possible - making them more complicated would slow that part down by who knows how much? You can't even limit game seeks by membership level, they're certainly not going to add country (which isn't verified, so anyone can choose any flag).
you do discriminate as a platform yourselves against russians and belarusians. you cant have a ban on discrimination and then discriminate. plus this is an american company that is banning russia on principle for aggression
Chess.com's position on Russia is in line with those of other international sporting organisations such as the IOC and is pretty similar to lichess'. No other conflict in the world has attracted the same action from those organisations, so Chess.com is not some outlier here. I see there's been some stuff at FIDE recently about conflicting resolutions - I don't know if CHessKid.com has country flags, but the Russian and Belarussian flags might be returning there if so. Still unclear about the adult side of things.
i could think of a few dozen ways of approaching bad internet connection problems i suppose but i really need this to stop now. i mean its all just hypocritical posturing especially if they come with the OMG you want to block a country thing. this has been a feature of web servers i have admin'd for many years. geo maxmind db etc. i was just posting a suggestion thats all. please stop. especially if you have an anime figure in your pic, i now want to ban by "if user has an anime avatar" as well.
there was another user on here called faded-out-of-this-life. as soon as i saw the name i cried. there are other people like me.
but yeh good point about the user choosing their own flags. it tries to set it by IP on signup using probably the same maxmind db thing i was talking about. it would be unreliable as these things always are in regard to VPNs etc. but yeh i think the whole euro thing would bypass peoples OUTRAGE and just do what i and clearly others want. there are people that want to ban india because they dont like brown people etc but thats not what i was after i like brown people fine and i dont want to obliterate them all like for example - america who openly state their hatred quite often in the newspapers. why not ban america if you support ukraine ? i dont see all the US flags blanked out. its a fair point! anyway laters to this communication STOP
