captcha

so, now it seems there is a captcha requirement to send a message to another member here (note that i did not use the term private message).

of all the things that the site could do to improve service, this is the latest?

ok, if the 'new' service will allow me to use certain words-you know, those words that make some people cry-in messages to other adults, i would be for it.

otherwise, why is captcha here? we've already logged in. there is no requirement prior to posting in any topic.

i'd love to hear from staff about this.

(not holding my breath)

Is this the first time you've noticed? They've done this in the past when bots go nuts with spam. For example trying to send every member some phishing scam link. By putting up a captcha they freeze the bots, and it seems it stays that way until the scam people go away.

i do remember.

this seems different. i just tried to message a member here i am friends with. i went through about ten damn captchas and was not allowed to send a message.

to a friend.

Well... sometimes I just like to be contrary and argue against you wink.png

I think mostly we agree on things.

in red, this can result in people expanding their understanding of how things are. in other words, it's not a bad thing to be contrary if it makes the other think. for people like you and i, it gets us into trouble at times.

questioning another should never be off limits.

as i have done here asking about how we can send messages.

Yes it's the most stupid thing i ever saw...i stopped sending my friend message last night because after 6 try i was not able to send anything...

Not a fan of how they implemented this. I don't send duplicate messages, I don't spam links or anything and I am a premium member... why do I have to enter captchas.

This is the reason.

I believe there is a bug in the implementation, where if you have a mistake in the first attempt, every attempt after will fail if the original message doesn't get modified.

I've tested that a few times and it seems to be the case.

No it isn't Martin FGS I am typing in the captcha correct EVERY time and it still says it is wrong.

Could that be a lower case "w"? Not sure...

If you move the W up to be in line with the P, it's very close to the same height as the P. It's a tossup whether it's uppercase or lowercase. At least in my opinion.

It is 100% a Capital W.

I even refreshed the page and everything before hand and it didn't work, neither did the others I tried. What a joke.

Well, now we're into having to read the "font tea leaves". It shouldn't be that ambiguous.

EscherehcsE

For example, here we have three hopefully at least semi-intelligent people - One thinks it's lower case, one thinks it's upper case, and one isn't sure...

I ran into this problem today and it was really annoying. For each message I sent to a friend here, I had an average of 3 failed captchas due to the case-sensitive issue. This will certainly discourage not only bots to abandon the site for good. LiChess is definitely ahead in user experience.

Sometimes they simply don't work for me.
