Chess.com, PLEASE get rid of the delay before the first hint on puzzles

Can't we just have the option to get rid of it? Some people click to fast and ruin their experience of the puzzle. Their problem. Shouldn't be applied to all users. That's just irritating and impact the overall experience.

Please Chess.com, just make it available in the option to get rid of it if we wish. Thanks.

Just adding a comment back on this since it was mentioned there would be some action on this and at least for me puzzles are still exactly the same. To be clear, this is NOT during the initial rated puzzle, this is during the unrated second attempt so there is no risk of losing rating by clicking the hint too fast. This is purely after failing the puzzle initially and not wanted to have to wait an additional delay after staring at a puzzle for a long enough time. I understand the delay for a rated puzzle attempt but surely it can't be that hard to remove this for unrated puzzle attempts

Please, chess.com, while you are at it, please move the hint button further away from where the re-try button appears. I want to retry WITHOUT a hint, and because I'm on an Android, this frequently causes me to hit Hint, too, after I've hit retry. I HATE when this happens, and it happens way too often. I rarely need a hint. I usually need only one retry. It spoils my learning process, and my fun, when I get a hint too soon.

Did they look into it? This feature drives me insane. I've just counted and I click my mouse 16 times before it refreshes. It makes no sense at all if it is a feature btw.

The Hint button appears in the same place the player just clicked in both cases here:

A. Player gets rated puzzle incorrect and hits Retry

B. Player hits Next (➡️) in Custom Puzzles after any attempt

There are no rating points on the line, but there is still the small risk of a "spoiler" if the user accidentally clicks twice. The current delay seems to be 3-4 seconds, which I agree is a bit gratuitous.

Rather than chucking it out entirely, we could try a much shorter delay, like 0.5s or even 0.25s. How's that sound?

Iris_for_the_Pin

I definitely want the delay to still be there, but I can live with you making it shorter. But 0.25sec is too short. I have a nerve problem with my hand and I can too easily click twice.

Sounds good to me! I think a .5 sec delay will feel much better than what is currently in place.

I want the delay completely gone in my case. Just make it an option. Simple as that. (And very simple to implement!)

Yes, adding the delay in the first place doesn't make sense.

"...there is still the small risk of a "spoiler" if the user accidentally clicks twice."

Then the button shouldn't appear in the exact same place that a different button used to be. It's simply poor design. The delay doesn't *solve* this, it just creates a separate issue.

Iris_for_the_Pin

Yes, I  agree. The hint button should be in a different place. Its position has caused me problems because of the nerve problem in my hand, mentioned earlier.

GueenQambitDamn

I understand some people like it.

It should be a feature that you can desactivate. Just like you can show or hide the chronometer. For some people, it ruins the experience.

It's litterally a few line of code.

Did they ever fix this? They should just move the hint button somewhere else so people don't accidentally click it, but take the delay out or let people choose, it really doesn't need to be there.

Iris_for_the_Pin

I 100 percent agree with the above post.
