I love chess.com. I have been a member for 8 months and my chess has improved dramatically in that time.
I have 2 suggestions for making this site even better.
1. You really need a level of lesson between advanced and intermediate. The intermediate level lessons are really good but like all the pre-advanced lessons they are general. I play the London and I learnt it mostly from Youtubers like GothamChess and Hikaru. Having completed all the intermediate lessons I want to learn more stuff about the London but the 3 courses on the London in Advanced are way too hard and are not relevant to my games. They are also about 20 minutes long on average and very technical.
It would be amazing if you could have short series (hosted by someone like gotham chess) just going over the basics of each opening. He has some great videos already on this stuff but with the added activities it would be really great. At the moment, I am trying to learn the Pirc. I'm not ready for the advanced lessons on this, but I would love a few beginner classes on.
There are, not really any videos which say "this is the basic position". That would be a great starting point. You could even use the chess.com engine to work out what are the most played responses to those positions and talk about counters to those positions. This would be awesome. It would be great if they were less than 10 minutes as well.
2 I would LOVE it if there were a way for me to select an opening and play it against the bots. That is, I choose the following things
-I play black
-I play against Nelson.
-He plays a London.
OR
- I play white
-I play against Nelson
-He accepts the queen's gambit
You don't actually even need the bot names, you could just pick a bot skills level. You could call this section "opening training" or something. It would be amazing if you could do this.
I have suggested this in feedback to chess.com already and I got a nice response saying that this was already technically possible. YES, it is possible, but it's very complicated and I don't think you can do it on an app. I tried it once on the PC and it was so much work to create the position and then paste it in. I couldn't get it to let me be black after I started playing and so I gave up.
Anyway, keep up the good work!
