I'm having the exact same issue, down to every character you typed. This has been going on pretty much since the beginning of this year, maybe as far as late last year for me. As of the last couple of months, it's gotten much worse, taking much longer to respond and going as far as to crash the site on reload. I had a theory that it was just a side-effect of loading the engine in the background to analyze the game more quickly. Has any progress been made on this to anyone's knowledge?
Desktop website is freezing and crashing more and more frequently

I get the exact same also. I now use Edge just for chess.com but it bugs me to have to use a different browser.

First step to try to solve is to open the site in an incognito or private tab/ That will help rule out bad cached files, cookies, and potentially, plugins/extensions that might be causing problems.
I can't remember why I originally made a post rather than a bug report, but trying to submit a bug report now (under the bottom left Help menu, visualized here), that button doesn't do anything on my end.
If it does work for you guys, please submit an actual bug report there so that these issues actually reach the devs. If it also doesn't work for you, then I don't know what we could do.
On the actual topic though, for me most of these issues seem to have been resolved (I am experiencing different ones, but I'd rather not derail this topic with those). I have cleared all my caches/cookies/etc. somewhat recently for unrelated reasons, so that may have been the "fix", doing as Martin_Stahl suggested might be worth a shot.

Every time I check a player if freezes and I have to quit safari and restart again. Dozens of times a day!! WTF!!
I'd like to describe some issues that I've been encountering consistently in the hopes that the site developers will be able to reproduce and fix these issues in the future. Note that (as far as I can tell) these all seem to client-side issues.
I use Google Chrome (whatever the latest version is at the time of writing) on Windows 10 - as far as I can tell the below are client-side issues.
After opening the website/logging in I always do the following:
At this point - without exception - if it's my first time opening the website in a while, the site freezes completely. The Schedule tab opens and correctly retrieves the list of ongoing tournaments, but the website doesn't respond to any actions/clicks at all, and the UI also gives no feedback (e.g. highlighting buttons when they're hovered over with the mouse).
Closing the tab at this point takes a perceptible amount of time, and sometimes causes the browser itself to display the OS "not responding" message for a couple of seconds. After closing the tab however, opening the website again in a new one fixes this issue, performing the above actions for a second time everything works as expected - I'm able to find and join an arena.
During play the website crashes 1-3 times over the course of one (30 minute) tournament, always just as a game I've been playing has concluded. For example just as my (or my opponent's) clock hits 0:00, the game conclusion popup can be seen for a moment (<1s), its sound effect can be heard, after which the tab crashes with an out of memory error message.
The above issues have been going on for quite a few weeks now, possibly as long 3-4 months, but I'm not sure about that - I haven't been keeping track closely.
Today however, the site became completely unresponsive several times (3-5 maybe?) during games. Similarly to how the website freezes at the end of the above steps, the website also froze randomly when clicking on a piece to move it during games.
The cursor got stuck on the "hand cursor icon" (indicating the movement of a piece), but the piece itself would not move, and neither hovering over nor clicking other elements of the interface (i.e. the elements not on the chess board), had any effect. So, complete freeze. Reloading the tab (by pressing F5), also wouldn't work for several seconds, but there was no "not responding" message this time.
After successfully reloading the page, I'd either see it still being my move - as expected - or I'd see it being my opponent's move, with the piece that I'd originally tried to move being roughly in the vicinity of where cursor at the time of pressing F5.
Hopefully this is of some help to the people maintaining the site in tracking down and fixing these issues.
