There have already been a few days since this 'incident', and he's still here.

What's up, moderators?

I mean, if a German is offended to be called a Nazi, then how am I - a 3rd generation to the holocaust, am supposed to feel?

There would always be jerks in the world, but if there's no police...

Just wanted to bring that malfunction to your attention.

Goodbye now. Have a nice day.

Moderators can only edit and remove comments. Presumably you mean the support team. Who need to pick up the ticket - that can take a few days - and then verify that what you say is true and not slander (which is why they don’t allow public accusations btw - the mods will edit that out of your original post). They need to review the person’s chat history and whether they’re a repeat offender. They then contact the person and depending on that person’s history might warn them, explain the rules, get them to promise not to do it again. They might even get muted for a period of time. If the person is hostile, they might get a permanent mute. None of which is visible to anyone else on the site. If they’re super hostile and abusive to staff, THEN they might get their account closed, but only then

Public announcements of rule violations are against TOS. You can’t name a specific user and say, “He did such and such.” The mods will edit it.

Probably the best way to get this Nazi dealt with is to take a screenshot of his comment, and then email it to staff at contact@chess.com. Within a few days, staff will get back to you and let you know what action they’ve taken against the jerk.

Sorry you got that message. Amazing how brazen and open antisemites are these days. Nothing new, unfortunately.

@a_proud_zionist I'm sorry to hear you had to experience this.

The OP has done nothing wrong (with their username, profile picture, flair or playing chess) and no one should ever have to accept or live with abuse, harassment, discrimination or other forms of hate.

Reporting the incident is the correct thing to do and the support team should handle it. You likely will not receive any notification about how it was handled. I would urge you to block the user to avoid recurrences. You may also disable in-game chatting if it becomes a bigger problem with other users (I realize this isn't ideal but it is an option).

Moderators will respond to violations of the community policy, https://www.chess.com/legal/community. It appears this report has gone to support.

Telling a Jew to go to Auschwitz has nothing to do with politics. It’s straight-up racism. As the mod @AwesomeAtti said, @A_Proud_Zionist did nothing wrong. The guy who supports the Holocaust did something wrong.

By the way, comments like yours will end up getting mod involvement, either getting your comments deleted or getting the whole thread locked. Politics is not allowed on the public forum.

Im all in favor of condemning Nazi’s to the trash bin of history, ban them.

I am wondering what the rules on names are though. Clearly a name that said something like A_Proud_Nazi should be banned. What other names are bannable? Are they only things we all agree on like Nazi’s, or is it any group doing bad things regardless of public opinion?

@cencestus the community policy, https://www.chess.com/legal/community, applies to user comments, profile pictures and usernames. Expect a username or profile picture that is vulgar, obscene, promotes/supports violence, hate or other forms of discrimination will likely be banned. I hope this helps.

You need a better class of friends.

I’m not sure you got the subtext of my text friend.

Remember politics is not allowed to be discussed.

My friend is OP

Clearly you missed the subtext

I don't take hints. You'll have to be oblique with someone else.

I never talked to you until you talked to me lol.

Anyway. My other question would be where can we get a list of which things/groups promote and support violence?

I don’t want this to get political, and it feels like deciding what is in the list is political, so it probably has to come from the website. We can’t debate what should be on the list as thats political discussion.
Avatar of Green_Sleeves

My experience is that mods don’t provide lists for this kind of thing, because oftentimes the moderator action taken in any given situation will vary depending on how extreme the particular violation is, or if the member has had violations in the past. What I’ve been told is that if I perceive something to be against TOS, I should just report it and let staff handle it.

Avatar of Cencestus
Gotcha, and we can probably use historic rulings to understand what they’d say. Like they would probably be against some name saying I love Putin or something like that. As they already ruled against the russian flag.
Avatar of Green_Sleeves

Yeah, possibly.

Avatar of Cencestus
Ahh AA is a mod. I guess its clear which names they think are promoting hate speech.

Personally I just recall the history around the word zionism and how it was once deemed racist by the UN https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_General_Assembly_Resolution_3379.

Now lets not debate if this is correct or not, that argument is politics not history. If we stick to history, then it has been seen as racist by some parties and not racist by others, varying throughout time.

Which is why I was asking before if the banned names would be just the ones near unanimously agreed on, or any that some find hateful. It seems to be the former.
