It seems more likely that nothing happened when you reported because there wasn't enough evidence.
The closure of the account probably occurred after a completely unrelated game.

A few weeks ago, I played against a cheater and reported this person to chess.com yet he/she did not get banned for violating the website's rules. As a last effort, I made a post here which got deleted for some reason. Finally, I have now seen the message of my rating being adjusted due to playing against a cheater. I checked for the account and it has been banned. The Fair Play system takes a long time to work.
