nah, the bottom bit

Notifications are bugged and staff haven’t acknowledged it yet

NO! you do not recall correctly. you bowed out of two topics that were just like this-pointing out staff fails. that you were a part of the failures and you now hold a grudge, wishing me a longer mute, tells all about you. you were part of the probem, and you continue to be with comments like this-wishing for long mutes for members that simply want the site to function.

lol - I think everyone can see who it is that "holds a grudge" - I don't recall those other conversations, but I'm sure they went the same way as this one, where you were all indiginant and self righteous and refusing to countenance any counter arguments and it was clearly pointless trying to present any alternative viewpoints: there is only yours, you are the only correct one, Chess.com is bad and I am good etc etc etc. As a moderator then, I couldn't tell you that you were being petty and small and whiny, so I stepped out of the threads. I'm not a mod any more, you're behaving in exactly the same way and I am happy to say what I couldn't say before. I'm not following you around - ha! you wish! - but I happened to be online when you posted your usual sort of drivel and I felt like calling it out.

I agree that whatever loophole is allowing some people to avoid the autofilter should be closed. But the site does function - it just doesn't function the way you want it to, and you refuse to accept that but go on and on an on about it, keep behaving the same way and keep getting the consequences and then complaining about those consequences, blaming the site and never your own choices. It's weird how you still feel compelled to hang around here when it's clearly aggravating you, rather than going off to lichess where one could argue that their development philosophy is much more tuned to their existing ussers. But then their forums don't have anywhere like the same sort of leniency that Chess.com has, so I suppose your complaints would get shut down far more quickly and thoroughly.

Chess.com lets you rant and rave like a lunatic at them. You have zero appreciation for that.

wow, what a bunch of excrement.

"you refuse to accept that but go on and on an on about it, keep behaving the same way and keep getting the consequences and then complaining about those consequences"

we don't know all the words the crappy ai flags as offensive. getting muted for writing unknown banned words or quoting another has been a problem for many. i'm one of few that writes about it.

"I don't recall those other conversations". " I'm not following you around - ha! you wish!"

no. if i had a preference, i'd choose that you only post if you have something constructive to add about how members might be able to work around site fails. OR, us your connections (if you have any) with those in charge here to relay the aggravation we face.

and, no, i don't wish for you to post in any of my topics if you continue to respond with bile like this.

"Chess.com lets you rant and rave like a lunatic at them. You have zero appreciation for that."

lunatic, ha! in my erik, we are frustrated thread (one that you left), erik himself recognized there were good suggestions.

and, people getting muted for things they are unaware of (NOT for cursing) should be considered unacceptable by everyone, including staff.

now you can get back to yelling at little kids in your neighborhood.

Bovine excrement is the M.O. of many posters, just as it is the stock in trade of many politicians and folks who sell things (used cars, vacuums, knives, air purification systems, …)

Well yes, he still has one against me from years ago

What a sad lad eh ?

On balance... I thought david was a cool mod/staff member. Never had a problem with him, and on top of that he was nice to me 🤷

And yeah, Al, these topics are a bit whiney IMO. I mean, I've complained about (and been a victim of) the auto mute too, so I agree with you, but at the end of the day chess.com has a limited amount of time and money and they choose to focus on their million dollar tournaments over the minutiae, which is understandable.

David-as-a-regular member is giving me conservative worldview vibes though... like respecting authority / institutions is a virtue. I suppose this is the type of personality that is attracted to moderating in the first place, but (as with any worldview that any person disagrees with) it's a bit childish to me, so... meh. I prefer to remember him as the nice mod/staff guy.

idilis

I don't think they're whiney at all. But perhaps some of us care so much that it hurt. Maybe we should just let go. Nothing lasts forever anyway.

Are you sure you're a dictator? You're so likeable... wait, that's how they get you... first the charisma, then the slave labor.

Fight the real enemies...vacuous kiddy content and aging crackpots wink.png.

Joking aside...I understand both sides...this issue should be fixed by now, and chess.com does habitually ignore the forums, which I find funny because I would guessestimate that the forums here have held many a user that would otherwise has disappeared to Lichess.

Now that there has been this big boom, some trickle-down for maintaining and moderating the forums would be nice. Right now everything is too dependent on whether volunteer mods want to put in the time or not. It's an over-reliance on free labor that has become unwarranted. There's also a yawning gulf between staff and mods. Batgirl and David (and Martin) were putting in the kind of time that resulted in catching things same day. Now, we're lucky if a mod sees something within the first week.

just don't complain if you get muted.

Just got a red banner for quoting this post:

Apparently, the shorter term for a mute donkey is being filtered for me, but not for @hapless_fool.

Maybe we should all just start accumulating these occurrences here.

It wouldn't be so bad if the accumulation was windowed to, say, a month or two. As it is, the price of being active in the forums is an occasional mute for something you may have quoted a year ago.

Meanwhile they allow no filter on mobile and in general kids to clutter the forums with nonsense. It's a very lazy, and very poor job by staff.

To add to this...I could understand if I quoted a post from 3 years ago that had a term that was later added to the filter. But this post was made this morning on one platform and then quoted on another platform.

the difference between posting using a pc/tablet/laptop compared to a phone has been another issue where staff has failed. another longtime issue. i would imagine that most of the posts where off-limit curse words are used have been posted via the app. i will test this after this post. maybe david will get his wish and i will be muted for over a year.

the app sucks. it has sucked for years. navigating it is completely different than using other methods. there have been numerous topics about the differences, and, to the user, nothing seems to be done.

just keep adding more features! flair! hey, are you a bronze member?! more puzzles and ways to rank everyone-as if our game stats are not enough-as basic functions still suck.

maybe david can explain why the counting topics are not spam.

AlCzervik

so, as the site has gone away from adults and geared towards kids whose parents might pay, this is what we have. kids, or, anyone, can use their phones to post "bad" words. if anyone quotes that post using a device other than a phone, they are muted.

it's quite sad when members of the website have to show the fails.

for years.

to see nothing done. this is not exclusive to posting in forums, i'm sure.

idilis

each time i try to stay away it's never been much longer than 6 months, except the 1.5 year hiatus before the bunny series. we should go but instead we stay. something must be wrong with us.

edit: i was wrong about the long hiatus there was a short lived cannibal series in between.
