Yes, you should be contributing important things.
Forum posts with more downvotes than upvotes shouldn't count for the Participant achievement
The best way is to disregard idiots.
Doing nothing does nothing to address the problem.
I don’t care about achievements, and I have no patience for idiots. I’m here to play chess—nothing else. Anything that doesn’t help me improve or add something positive, I simply ignore. I don’t need anyone’s appreciation, nor do I care about increasing my ELO rating. I’m here for the pure enjoyment of the game, or even better, for a tough fight and a respectable loss. I learn far more from losing than from winning. You can call me a hedonist—and you’d be absolutely right.
Pro tip: don't use the colouring options. They make content unreadable to people who use colour inversion in their OS or browser.

can you read it now?

Yes, it's readable now. Thanks.
Activity points are gained at the point of content creation. At one point deleted content veas removed from that but I'm not sure that's still in place.
Seems unlikely that down votes would change to have an impact on that
The Participant achievement is awarded for posting 100 messages on the forums. This has encouraged spamming and meaningless messages.
Since it's possible to downvote spam and meaningless messages (and reporting spam has no observable effect), I propose that forum posts with more downvotes than upvotes don't count towards the Participant achievement. This should remove an incentive for posting meaningless messages on the forums.
i mean intention is right but this method prolly wouldnt work cuz people will still spam that isnt gonna stop anytime soon
butterfly achievement was way back but ppl still beg to be friended for the '100 ppl' achievement
second it can be manipulated cause if someone personally doesnt like another person then they can js ask their friends to mass downvote the OP (happens a lot) so yea
Downvotes are already ridiculous, we don't need something else to make them worse. Plus, people will downvote comments just because. Obviously you should be allowed to express your opinion on what someone says, but way too many people just downvote a post they are in an argument with, and use that. Or they will say that because they have more upvotes they are somehow better. It's infinitely better than Reddit, but it's still not great.

Your comment reads as if you missed the purpose of the suggestion: removing an incentive for posting meaningless messages. This way, the downvotes would at least serve a purpose. Currently, I don’t think they have any effect. The page What does upvoting/downvoting a comment do? in the Help Center claims that upvotes and downvotes “help improve the quality of discussions by making valuable content more visible and pushing down negative or unhelpful comments”. The idea was probably copied from Stack Exchange, but I haven’t seen this effect at all on Chess.com.

My comment reads as if I am sharing my opinion.
