Is the Daily games view going away?

Hello,

Today (11/12/21), when trying to view my daily games, I am being redirected to a different page: chess.com/play/online/daily, instead of chess.com/daily.  There is a pop-up note stating that my daily games are viewable on the Games tab when viewing this page.

My question is:  is the Daily games page - chess.com/daily - being removed?  I really hope not!  I appreciate being able to see my current games on one page and use the large thumbnails on this page frequently - without clicking into the actual game.

I don't remember chess.com asking for feedback on this before rolling this out.

Thank you for any help,

jaljr

I am seeing the same thing.  I am assuming this is a bug, like the bug yesterday, and that it will be fixed shortly.

In the unlikely event that this is not a bug, and this was someone's great idea, this is a MASSIVE downgrade.  The list in the games tab makes it almost impossible to do Daily Chess if you have a large number of games.

As just a starting list of all the things that this interface is missing:

1) it does not give the total number of games you are playing

2) it shows only a very few games without scrolling, the regular Daily Chess list (especially when set to text) would show you dozens.

3) it doesn't even show how much time your opponent has remaining, just 3 dots.  WTF is this?

There is more, but I am hoping this is just a bug, because otherwise it makes doing Daily Chess with a large number of games very difficult.  This bug coming on top of yesterday's huge daily chess bug means that the chess dot com programmers are having a very bad week.

I am new so I didn't have a chance to get used to the "old" way. Just a couple of days. But the new way is very difficult to read. The daily games list is now cramped into a narrow sidebar so everything is abbreviated and squished.

(Part of the width of the browser is taken up by an advertisement. I assume if I paid for premium and the ads went away, then I would see a wider sidebar? If so, it seems like a poor way to get me to pay for the site.)

Even without the ad, the "games" column (sidebar) isn't very wide in my browser. Even if I remember to maximize the browser view -- which makes the sidebar much wider and restores the thumbnail views of the games -- it still is a poor replacement for an entire page that lists our ongoing games.

So far, the good news is that https://www.chess.com/daily still exists. I had to type it in manually because the navigation menu has changed. (Since it's no longer accessible via site navigation, that makes me think they're getting rid of it. Sad face.)

It appears the chess.com/daily link is still available on my Home page by clicking on the Daily games heading.  But, it was much more convenient to have a direct link to this through my chess.com navigation bar.

First, thanks for pointing out that the URL still works, I have bookmarked it now instead of using the now broken site navigation.

Another problem with the sidebar is that when a new move comes in, it does not update.  You scroll down the list (waaaay down the list) and the new move isn't even listed among your moves.

At least now I'm back up and running with the regular daily chess page.  If they take that away, I call for revolution.

They asked for feedback on what to call what became "daily". Correspondence chess was by far the most popular choice, so they chose "daily" which had very few supporters.

The problem I'm having with the new view is that accuracy percentage is no longer shown for past games in the archive and I have no idea where to find it.

I go to Stats.

Thanks! I'll go that route for now.

This looks like another 'update' to the user interface that is just another downgrade to this site.  I mainly play correspondence chess (daily) and much preferred the old interface because of all the information given.  Between this, the downgrade from live to 'play', and how they ruined the game analysis, I have decided to just finish up my final games here on chess.com and move to a website that actually listens to its users.  The management of this company really needs to take a hard look at what they are doing because the quality of their product is really going down hill.

That's one I should try. I also just realized there are two archive views. The homepage navigation bar archive shows accuracy but the daily game sidebar archive doesn't.

Oh no, I just tried it in the mobile browser and it's even worse. To find the game list, one must scroll down below the empty game board. :-(

I'd also like to register my disapproval of the new UI layout.  I do tend to dislike UI changes in general, but this one is particularly much worse than the previous version.  I also like to look at thumbnails of all my active games.  Now those are too small to see, while the whole screen is consumed by a giant dummy chessboard.

I agree with much of what previous posters have said here. These changes don't improve the interface for daily players.

That's the part I don't understand -- from a design standpoint. Who thought this was a good idea? Someone actually had to propose: "Instead of simply listing the games, with relevant info, can't we squeeze all that into a narrow column on the side and put a big chessboard that no one's using in the middle of the screen?" and the rest of the team said: "Yes! That's a great idea!" What?

I can't speak specifically to daily being redirected, but the play area was part of trying to design a unified location for playing against other people, as I understand it.

I've referred this feedback topic to a staff members though.
