Danny addressed this today in the State of Chess.com.
While he thinks that Leagues have great potential, he doesn't see anything being done with Leagues in the next few years.
Leagues need a redesign.

CHESS.COM SAYS LEAGUES HAVE NO IMPACT IN MATCHMAKING.
And I say that is INCORRECT.
League varies, according to chess.com, on how MUCH you play.
Are you telling me the "time spent" variable does not matter how hard a player tries to win?
or the effort he puts into each game?
I have deactivated leagues and games seem to be more varied.
I am not always PLAYING AGAINST A DUDE WHO PLAYS 10+ GAMES a DAY LIKE ME
The league design doesn't work, there is only two types one, the player will play 100 games a day maybe win 40% and by shear amount of games prevail to legend or two those who are winning the bulk of their games and playing well. I think it should be a proud accomplishment to make it to legend not just a matter of time...
