is there a way to display the 50 move countdown during a game? it would be cool to know this in the final seconds of a close match. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

For a draw? It's not that hard. Figure out what move had the last pawn move or capture. Add 50. That will tell you what move you can claim a draw on.
If there is a new pawn move or capture, start over.
