Server Overloaded

I had an overload posting this!

We are sorry, but our database is currently maxed out due to the unprecedented growth of chess over the last few weeks. We have doubled in traffic in a very short time and are working hard to add more capacity.

Yeah same for me, been happening a lot today. Not sure if the coverage of Tata Steel Chess tournament has anything to do with it. or the 12 Tera Byte tablebase programme they now have. https://www.chess.com/analysis?tab=tablebase

Me too. All day! But our memberships should be extended as compensation since through no one’s fault we have not been receiving the services we have paid for.

The tablebases use storage and wouldn't have an outsized impact on site connections or load.

Regarding the database/5xx messages, the site has been experiencing very high loads and are working on optimizations and capacity increases to alleviate issues.

The important thing is for chesscom to prioritize profit over anything else, including the product, then throw out some mittens memes to trivialize it.

Here's Gotham Chess to explain why;

Except for the fact that's not at all what's happening surprise

I don't mind that a site has issues from time to time. I do mind that there's issues for days and days and not a single mention of timeline to resolution.

Is there an ETA?

What is happening is we are paying for a product that fails to work, and you want to be smug about it.

That article has that information.

Some updates are planned to be in place by the end of the week. Other planned work, could take 2-3 weeks.

That initial work will hopefully minimize issues until all the changes and updates are completed.

I don't think anyone is trying to be, or actually being, smug about it.

The doubling of traffic in a couple of weeks, for a site that was already getting a lot of traffic, was unexpected. Staff have been working hard at identifying things to optimize and immediately began working on identifying things to change and capacity increases to alleviate issues.

From what I can tell, today seens a lot better than it was last week and certainly better than yesterday. When traffic remains high, there will likely be some issues until all planned changes are implemented.

The OP did ask for pics of overload....nervous   This is what the C.C. servers look like. surprise

Thank you.

Terrible.

It’s becoming a daily occurrence. Particularly frustrating because you really can’t “contact us” I’d cancel my membership but they make that almost impossible too. It’s becoming a joke of a site.

The Contact Us process works. It's just that you need to try and look up an answer to your issue before you can get the Ask link. You can either add something in the search box and hit enter or click the search icon with a blank search term to get it.

merlinextralight

So when I try the contact us on the IPad I type in a question, and it never gives me the option of actually responding to anyone other than the bot.

merlinextralight

At this point, I’m just going to dispute the charge on my credit card. They’re not giving the service they promised; they’re not addressing the failure; and they’re not even providing a reasonable way to cancel.

the fact that they chose to grow faster than they could handle is not my problem
