Puzzle points for solving and failing are outright atrocious and unfair.

If I fail a puzzle, I lose 15 to 20 points. If I successfully solve a puzzle, I obtain 5 to 10 points. Can someone explain the logic behind this? Especially considering free users only getting 3 puzzles a day. You mean to tell me if they get 2 to 3 wrong it could take a week straight of successful solves to get the points back? Like why be so drastically harsh on us for unsuccessful solves? This is so messed up.

The points added to or subtracted from your rating are based on:

  • the difference between your rating and the puzzle rating and
  • the amount of time you take to solve the puzzle.

You earn a minimum of 5 points for a correct solution no matter how long you take. Therefore, if you are unsure of your proposed solution, you ought to continue to double check your work.

You just missed two puzzles rated about a thousand points below your rating.

Maybe you should have spent more than 27 seconds on one and 7 seconds on the other. Look at the average amount of time that people spend on the puzzles.

Many successful people spend minutes making sure that they have the right answer.

@Justbefair, are you a prosecutor or something. Bro did some digging 😅👏🏼

The guy is just mad he lost. The puzzles are kinda unfair. I play puzzles hundreds of points below my rating and when I lose, i see the pass rate it 17%. Then that’s not a fair rating for that puzzle. And you don’t get any points for correct ideas or alternative move orders

I was trying to get him to see that he answers very rapidly in many cases and that he would be better served by double checking his thoughts before actually making his play.

The Puzzles system has a bug nowadays. The puzzles you get will be drastically lower-rated than normal. As a 2000, I sometimes got 1000-rated puzzles. Since your gains/losses are determined by the difference in your rating and the puzzle’s rating, lower-rated puzzles will take away more points and give less. And because of this bug, lower-rated puzzles are all you will get for quite a while, it seems.
