Yes. The point that so many miss about studying is that they confuse being fast with improvement. Chess, tactics, etc. are all about pattern recognition. The more patterns you know the better you are. You do not learn patterns by moving fast.
Indeed, Totally in agreement with you. I've learnt the most from just playing,and learning 960 alongside standard. And any improvement in faster variations seems to have come from my experience in slower timed chess games. And to add you also get penalized for achieving the same aims or better in a different combination. At first I thought it was me, but nope.

Why the high deduction of points for getting a puzzle wrong but the miserly rewarding of points on the tactics trainer? Is there a general small carrot big stick policy? Are the chess.com staff sadists? Did the team have parents that drove them too hard in childhood or something similar?
