Remove or rework the daily game vacation system.

I think we've all dealt with players who abuse the vacation system in daily game mode. Personally, I see no need for a player to have a dizzying 6 weeks or more of vacation for a game mode that gives you literal days to move. If you can't make a move within 24hrs, 6 more weeks won't help do anything but grief other players. It honestly seems to me that players willfully try and stall other player out until they quit of frustration. It's highly unsportsmanlike and borderline cheating. I strongly recommend looking into a revision if not a total removal of this system.

If someone is abusing vacation to prolong hopelessly lost games they can be reported.

However, for games that can last months, even without use of vacation, there can be times where vacation is useful to allow players time away from ongoing games. It's unlikely that there will get drastic changes to the vacation system.

I know it's been suggested to have no vacation seeks/challenges. Other suggestions are a way to set max vacation usage on a per event basis, configurable by the TD. I'm not sure if either of those are likely.

I don't understand. How can a game last months? And again, if you're playing a game that lasts months the game modes themselves allow up to 14 days to move. Vacation isn't necessary or even useful other than for griefing. The expectation of a playing a daily game isn't that far off from a rapid game. You would give a player who runs his clock to zero another 24hrs to move. So why do something as frivolous as adding vacation time to daily games?

The longest game in history only lasted a day..... Chess.com gave us several daily options to include an insanely generous 14 day option. Why on earth would there need to be, in my case, 6 weeks of vacation on a 24 hour game? Arguably, daily games are still timed. This absurd vacation option isn't anywhere else, it definitely shouldn't be in daily.

A game CAN last months, even without Vacation time.

If you play a 1-day game where both players combined take 1 day per move, then over an average game of about 40 moves, it’ll take about 40 days. That’s already over a month. Playing a 2-day game, again using the allowed non-vacation timer of 2 days for each turn, that goes up to 80 days (almost 3 months.) The longest time control of 14 days will take 560 days, or over a year and a half (assuming a combined 14 days for each turn.)

So yes, Daily games can easily last months, even years, even without Vacation Time.

Instead, there should be an option to play no vacation daily games without having to participate in no vacation daily tournaments.

What about reducing the vacation time given

@GraysonKellogg, did you mean to prove my point? Imo, I think vacation should be removed completely. It's entirely superfluous in this mode and basically exclusively used to grief players.

I would be interested in hearing the rationale behind including the vacation feature in this game mode from a chess.com rep.

I am playing a guy who has 30 other daily games going, ALL of them on vacation. I reported him after chatting with him to tell him I didnt agree to a weeks long game. He laughed at me, so he is on the app. I am M1 with this joker, he is stalling to try to frustrate me into quitting. There should be an option to not accept vacations in daily games

Daily chess is a form of Correspondence. Games can take months, without vacation, and events can take years. It's a common feature of the format and one that is needed for long lasting games.

That said, there are plans on decreasing the total bank time and accruals.

Change it from 6 weeks to something more reasonable like 3 weeks

The current plan is for premium to have 30 days max and basic members 14 days.

I agree if you signed up for a one move per day game, taking up to 30 days before your next move seems ludicrous. We aren't receiving mo ey for these games so if you can't move resign

One element of the problem is that the feature if it is on, is that it is automated. I am not sure on when it starts, maybe around two hours before your time is up. This needs to be replaced with a manual activation, that also requires that the opponent agrees to!
I know people use Vacation as a psychological tactic.
I hate it on many levels.
