Has nothing to do with lazy coding.. it's deliberately to make you lose that one review. They don't want you to save it for your one game YOU want to see. They want to make money of you
review game button after game end
I agree that they do it to take advantage of people in hopes they spend money. But I've spoken to so many people across dif sites and platforms & so many have left chess.com merely out of aggravation and principle. A lot of em will still do the daily puzzles & occasionally play some games. But moved most of their playing to other sites and all because of this issue. The smart thing would be to allow players to take advantage of their 1 complimentary daily review. And over time, they are gonna see games with great & brilliant moves & not have any reviews left and they gonna wanna purchase. Especially as they become more regular & better players. As it is now, a player will lose a game, and then have the review accidentally forced upon em. That player might be thinking a lot of things. But I can promise not 1 of them is, gee i wanna give chess.com money as a reward for taking advantage of me. Out of principle many will just say, no thx, I'll play & have my games analyzed elsewhere. I mean seriously we ain't taking bout much. Its literally 1 lousy review. And chess.com is really gonna pull this BS over it. Most peeps who become regular players would eventually purchase the membership anyways. So the fact they felt the need to pull this scam is beyond me..it's counterproductive because a lot of people won't pay out of principle, and there's other who will just go to other sites & to have their games analyzed. The fact they still haven't added a "confirm" button or changed layout so people weren't duped into accidentally clicking "review" just proves they don't give 2 craps.
I use Chrome - after game completion the new window pops up to choose between review and new game. for a brief moment, the new game button is in one position and then it moves to make room for the review button. if you click new game quickly, its super easy to click review (as it appears a moment later in the exact spot 'new game' was just located).
I can't count how many times I have clicked review when just trying to start a new game. As a free player, it's annoying to waste my one review (it uses it up).
And while yes, I could wait, it's super easy to forget, especially when playing blitz - and truthfully, in 2024 I shouldn't have to. This is pretty basic ux/ui stuff. Would love to see this fixed. the initial window that pops up without the review button for a moment doesn't even need to exist, this is just pretty lazy coding imo.
Thanks.
