Stop making the games time out on mobile so quick

I play at 10-5. Often i alt tab for a bit while waiting for the opponents move. I come back in like 40-70 seconds. But the thing is half the time when i come back, the game kicks me out.

Meanwhile, you can have people who abandon games and you wait 5 minutes.

Get rid of the checker to see if someones tabbed out of a game on mobile, its not fair that this is only on mobile and not pc. Or at least make it a reasonable amount of time (at least 2 minutes). The current setting on it is insane.

I dont imagine my opponents appreciate it either that the game suddenly ends because i alt tabbed for 40 seconds.

I think its set to something like 30 seconds right now

This is super tricky. There are a lot of scenarios where a shorter timeout works well. First move disconnects (where the user actually leaves), rage quits, etc. A lot of games are aborted on the first move, so we've optimized for reducing that wait. But there are also scenarios like this where it's not ideal, like the one you mentioned.

Later in the game, we want to give users time to think. We see users think for 5 minutes on a single move in a 10-minute game. Like actually on stream staring at their screen. This unfortunately leaves the door open for stalling.

Take these and any other scenario you can think of a user doing (malicious or genuine), multiply that by the number of time controls, and it's a tough balance to strike.

We're working on instrumentation that gives us a little better idea of why someone may not be making a move. This should help improve the dynamic rulesets.
