Wow, the 3d boards on chess.com look awesome. I believe the problem that lead many players in the way of 2d boards has been sorted. Nice.
Tactics Trainer resize issue
Were you able to make it bigger before?
Do you only have this issue with the 3d boards? They tend to cause these kinds of issues
I will play around with it myself and see if I can reproduce the same issue.
Also, the small question mark by the settings should give you some more resizing options that may help you.

Yeah I was able to resize the sidebar on the right so it was narrow, which made the board bigger on my screen. It makes a big difference on focusing on the puzzle at hand. I only use the 3d boards and can't speak to the 2d ones.

I agree. It's the biggest reason why I'm a member of chess.com.
Have you considered focus mode as a solution?
Just press z when you are in live chess and that will take you to focus mode with no side bar at all. If you don't like it, just press z again.
I am an idiot. You are having this issue in tactics. Not while playing
There is no focus mode for tactics.
However, it looks like that width isn't really the issue for making the board bigger as you don't seem to have any more height to spare either.

So I found what has changed. Turns out its not a constraint of the sidebar which will get narrower than in your screenshot (You can make your browser narrower to see that happen).
The difference now is that the 3d board used to let you expand its height until the very top of your opponent's pieces were off screen. We fixed it so that they will always be visible.

I was able to resize that empty space so I could see the board better. Since yesterday, the resize button only allows me to make it this size.
