THE BAD ABOUT FORUMS

I’m new here, but I have been on multiple forums across dozens of forums and they all have one thing in common…too much anger, derision, untoward criticism, and some pure vulgarity. I am a retired Army vet with PTSD, so I know a good bit about anger, pride, and ethics. In 30 minutes of random scanning of forums on here, I found more bad than good. The primary cause is lack of stringent moderation. High participant counts make this extremely difficult…yes. Maybe one day this site will use AI to analyze forum users comments and block abusive users regardless of ranks and experience. The truly sad thing is that this is just a GAME.

This is not possible, not even remotely, so I'm not sure why you're saying it.

I see the same threads you do and am one of the most active members here, focusing on finding and dealing with negativity... which is most often directed at moderators, as with this one, yours, and chess.com, in your case its forums, to be exact. People do love to find fault, then get on their high horse and complain.

So your observaion is phony...

perhaps most evidently when you claim to be seeing vulgarity. Chess.com has a zero tolerance policy re profanity:
when it happens, the comment is immediately removed and the account muted. You can cite exactly ZERO instances of profanity here... so why are you lying???

More baloney. Language filters do not require AI and they are already in place. You can find yourself muted immediately, very literally, when you use vulgarity. Thiis happened to me, in fact, just a few day ago, my account being muted for 24 hours.

Yep same. I have been muted for a month and i didnt do anything. Im suspecting i was continously commenting on Daily Puzzle Comments

What forum were those in the golden days of yore? I recall relentless trolls, obscene gifs & even threats against my life. What we have now is mainly childish nonsense spam and bunch of immature teens who don't know how to behave in public. I wouldn't complain too much about the current state of things. This IS the toned-down forum environment.

Well, not really. Hyperbole seems to be the order of the day this morning. There isn't a lot of spam here, first of all, unless your definition is a very broad one. Chess.com doesn't allow it. And there are a lot of young people here, yes, and some threads that older users might not have much use for, like "what's your chess personality", but not very many, and calling them 'nonsense', in my opinion, is just a little bit stodgy and overly serious.

Here is a list of the most active threads right now. Which ones do you think fit the label of "childish nonsense"? Is it really "most" or even "many"?

These forums really aren't that bad. They already use an algorithm to moderate profanity so I'm not sure how you were able to find any. I've met a lot of chill people here. And some annoying ones. But hey, that's the internet.
