To make the matter even more niggling you can type the word niggle into a forum post and its title without it causing any issues. But it will mute you for typing it in during a game. And it won't let you include the word in your account title.
The chat filter niggles me
Niggle is technically an Austrialian English word meaning to annoy. But regardless this seams to be quite immature referring to the words similarity with a certain racial slur that starts with n
Guys we did it! Niggle is no longer blocked automatically by the chat filter! I contacted support multiple times regarding the issue as well as filing a formal job application with the anti cheating department and we finally got it done! No longer will players be muted for typing innocent words like niggle and niggard into the game chat. Finally freedom from dumb rules is back at chess.com.

So he won't delete it and claim, "oh, I didn't type that."
LeoLOL87, I understand your confusion as niggard does sound similar to a well known slur, but I assure you it has none of the same connotations. It's a noun meaning a stingy or ungenerous person. I don't have to "claime" (sic) that I didn't write niggard because there's nothing wrong with the word niggard in the first place. And the chat filter finally reflects that simple fact by not automatically muting you if you try to type it.
Colonizor48 I've been trying to change it but I keep getting this error message: "To avoid confusion, you may not change your username while connected to Live Chess or registered for any Live Chess competition. Please try again after you are done playing." I suppose the support tickets to be able to change my name will have to be the next battle.

You can change it on desktop. Log off and log on again. I did it. Not on mobile tho.

Did you play mrfreezyboy or you get scared? I was away for awhile.
Ok so they don't block the word niggle if you type it into chat anymore, but you still can't include it as part of your username. Our victory is not total and this battle is not over.

Bro, honestly your intentions are suspicious at best. Why would you type those words in the first place, "niggles" and "niggard." First of all, you can use annoying and stingy. Second, nobody in the professional settings use those words or they are going to get fired or cancelled. Honestly, I don't think you are a person I would want to know in real life. And why would you call someone stingy, like you don't know whether someone is stingy or not without knowing them in real life? Third, those words are outdated.
You can't type the word niggle into chat during a game or it will automatically mute you. So I am posting about it because it has been niggling me for days. The chat filter shouldn't be targeting non-curse words just because they are too close to known curse words like the n-word.
