Trouble with school chess club bughouse arena

Hello,

I love chess.com and have been using it for a year and a half for my school's chess club. The experience has been great and I love the ability to create tournaments that only club players can join.

Today we did a bughouse arena. The players would partner up with each other and then join the arena. However, some players had trouble partnering because their partner never saw an invite. Another problem was that sometimes when partners would join the arena, they were given a new partner even though they had partnered up beforehand.

At my school, chess club has recruited many to the game and to chess.com. I have loved using your platform for our club. Is there anything that can be done to make sure these glitches don't happen again?

Thank you,

Hi Patrick,

Thank you for reaching out and for your enthusiasm in promoting chess through your school’s chess club! It's wonderful to hear about the positive impact your club has had in recruiting new players to Chess.com.

Regarding the issues you’ve encountered with bughouse arenas:

1. Partner Invite Issues

  • Possible Cause: This might happen due to connectivity issues, app version mismatches, or notification glitches.
  • Suggested Fixes:
    • Ensure both players have stable internet connections.
    • Ask all players to update their Chess.com app or use the latest browser version.
    • Double-check that partner invites are sent and accepted before entering the arena.

2. Partners Being Reassigned

  • Possible Cause: Bughouse arenas sometimes automatically assign partners if no partner is actively set at the moment of joining. This might override pre-set partnerships.
  • Workaround: To prevent this:
    • Ensure both partners join the arena at the same time after confirming their partnership.
    • Avoid refreshing or leaving the page once partnered and queued for the arena.

Reporting the Glitch

While these steps might help mitigate the problem, it sounds like there may be a bug with how bughouse partnerships are handled in arenas. To ensure Chess.com is aware:

  • Submit a Bug Report: Use Chess.com Support to detail the issue. Include:
    • The approximate time and date the issues occurred.
    • The usernames of affected players.
    • Steps to reproduce the problem, if known.

Chess.com continuously improves its platform, and feedback like yours helps make it better for everyone. Thank you for your dedication to growing the chess community!

Best regards,
Chess.com Support
