Vacation Abuse

I typically play a number of daily games at any different time.  And most of the time, about 25% of my opponents go on vacation and many play Lightning and Bullet games each day while they are on vacation.  Sometimes they stay on vacation for months just to let the game expire.

I have asked Chess.com to put a "No Vacation" option on the Daily Games setup just as they have on the Tournament setup site.  Never get any response even though I repeatedly report players for Vacation Abuse.  And have yet to see the "No Vacation" option on Daily Games.

I pay to play chess on this site but I do not seem to get my money's worth as so many get away with stealing my time with their Vacation Abuse.  Attempting to communicate with Chess.com is also a waste of time.  Running out of reasons to stay with Chess.com as they do not seem to care about my membership.

There should be less and less occasions like this. Now chess.com reduced vacation to a week or something like that but there are still some members who have months of vacation.

It's amazing how many players with months of vacation I run into. I made one move in a game a few weeks ago and my opponent immediately went on a two-month vacation.

A real fix for the Vacation Abuse problem would be that if a player goes on vacation and plays any live game, the vacation is then cancelled allowing the Daily Games to be played or lost on time by the abuser.

Wait, what is this? A valid suggestion to a problem I actually agree with!!!!

I wish Chess.com would agree with this too.

The site's vacation system is completely legitimate. Because a player is on vacation not on the site, but in individual games. Even if a player periodically takes time off to play, that's their tactic, and they have every right to do so!

That's not the OP's point at all.
The vacation feature is meant to be used technically when you need time off the site for whatsoever reasons. But if a player is active enough to play bullet or blitz regularly, they are objectively not on vacation. And many people misuse the vacation feature so it does need improvements.

Vacation helps reduce the strain on a player's gaming activity

I suggest that you can report the person for potential vacation abuse?

Chess.com already reacted by limiting the vacation time from 90 days —> 30 days.

I have no idea how many times I have reported this to Chess.com. Many other players put up with Vacation Abuse. The simplest thing would be to either add a "No Vacation" option to Daily Games or have the abuser automatically taken off on Vacation if they play live games.

The No-Vacation option is indeed a popular suggestion.
