Every time I think of playing variants on mobile I realize I can’t. I think this is very overlooked and should be fixed.

I don't think its overlooked, it's just that the audience is smaller for the work needed.

There are many different variants of chess available as mobile apps, including classical chess, speed chess, chess puzzles, and chess variants with modified rules or board layouts.

This may be true but it would be nice to be able to play variants with friends we have on chess.com. Also, all the code and data for running variants chess.com already have - it wouldn't be much work to implement it within the app.
