You ran out of time before your move reached the server.

Hello,

I got this message during a recent game. I was waiting for my opponent's move with 0:22 left on the clock, but suddenly lost on time while the chat displayed "You ran out of time before your move 32...Qd1 reached the server."

It must've reached the server since the site is stating my move?

I played a terrible game, so it didn't matter all that much, but should this become a recurring problem, it'd be intolerable. Has anyone else experienced this?

All the best,
- K

The client knows what move was sent, so when the loss on time occurred, the code would know you had made a move and would have that information for the message.

This is a huge problem with the interface which the developers refuse to fix. The problem is the client will show full four bar connection even when there is lag in excess of 2 seconds. I regularly experience the server constantly adding time to the opponents clock even when I have ore moves logged and the client shows a perfect connection.

Game of the Century: Byrne vs Fischer. Fischer has one minute on his timer, Byrne has virtually infinite relative to him. They are playing on chess.com amid fears over an outbreak of COVID 56. Fischer seizes control of his rook on the a file, to make the Rc2#, but decides to be menacing toward Donald Byrne. He begins aggravating him, exasperating him, and enables him to squirm like an earthworm in his ergonomic chair. Eventually Byrne gets very irate, and when the timer reaches one second, Fischer regains possession of his humble rook, dragging it along in a matter of split seconds... And alakazam. On Fischer's screen was displayed the note, "You ran out of time before your move 41. Rc2# reached the server. Byrne is elated.

It's super annoying. I will have 20 seconds left and enter all of my moves as pre-moves, and if there are more than five before a checkmate I will often timeout and lose. Complete garbage, especially in three minute games. I may have to start putting LI in front of this websites name.

I've had it a dozen times easy, the lag in general on here is intolerable, bullet is 1 nonviable, an absolute non-starter, 3min blitz is borderline.

Definitely not making this my primary site now.

@rvierbuc

that particular chess website is vastly superior in terms of game interface.  I got fed up of being timed out for one hour for 'letting time run out' when I would...get this...resign the fooking game.  There was no response or remedy from the mods with regard to it.

That prompted my move here to test the waters but the lag, oh the lag, I'll take undeserved sanction every now and again over this shower.

You don't know what you've got til it's gone!
