they don't work they just pop up as a sliver and I tried restarting my device but nothing

Get a better phone (just joking). Joke aside, it's a really new feature, so it's buggy, and some people doesn't even have it (like me)!

Pretty sure it requires a minimum version of Android for the feature.

Been having the same problem, and when I logged on it told me to check out the widgets just to find out I can't use it, I'm on a moto g and it's android so it should work but if yours ain't aswell then it makes more sense.
