Abandoning a game

I could never understand how people disconnect games; However, it became obvious to me, today, when our home internet connecting "died," which disconnected my chess game for the first time, and we lost every TV in our home.

Could anyone tell me why opponents will ABANDON a game? I really do not understand if there is an advantage, or perhaps they don't want to finish? I always resign, if necessary only because I don't want to waste time when it's impossible to win. Thank you. Brian Bennett / Florida

@BBennett53, it's frustrating, but I assume it's bad sportsmanship. Think: you're going to win, they know it, they hate it, so they do the last thing that could inconvenience you—stall or abandon.

People abandon games because they are sore losers and it's their way of spitting at you for beating them. I had to wait 3 minutes after I took some dope's queen. It's not my fault he left it hanging. You know chess.com doesn't do anything because if they did, people wouldn't do this. It's a shame.
