Aborted games should cost alot!

I'm sick and tired of playing a game and when the game gets close to the end,The other player aborts. So I loose "checkmate" points and a win. This should be the most egregious chess move. A player that aborts should not only loose the game points, But also have a 50 point penalty added to the player they aborted the game with. The penalty has to be strong enough to end this BS!

No one can abort after the first move.

So then how do many players"leave" a game close to the end? I feel like I'm loosing points each time a game is "aborted, canceled, quit,or whatever"!

If they quit, they lose.  You win.

They can resign. You win. You get the same number of points as if you had checkmated them.

There isn't any such thing as "checkmate points".

Agreed, a significant number of games I play are abandoned. This forces me to either wait around for the clock to run out, or to forfeit a game I’m going to win, just so I can play chess. The players doing this need to be removed from the site.

Would you agree:

The post said it was about aborted games, not abandoned games.

You can't abort a game after the first move.

/ Abandoned games are also a problem. I am surprised it is a big problem for you in 10 0 games.

Since youre such a long time member, and obviously a long time victim of this.  Let me answer you this way.  If you want to avoid these types of players, then study, and practice, and get better.  If youre just going to play blitz (at your level) this is what you get.  Now suck it up buttercup, and get that rating up, so you can play better people.

Who answers these posts? The answers are really stupid and condescending. This is one of the most frustrating aspects of this website: that you don't penalize players who abandon games. Don't tell us to suck it up, fix the damn problem!

Whoever was answering these posts should be removed as a moderator. Obviously, not customer oriented. Unbelievably arrogant.

Some players "abandon" games because their internet connection cuts out. That happened to me in one game I was winning.  So do it because they are jerks.

But the rules are the rules: you play KNOWING in advance how much clock time your opponent has or can gain per move.  You can't change the rules just because you're winning.

I've had 3-days/move games where I was ahead by a Queen and my opponents played them out to checkmate - a couple weeks later.  That is THEIR right!  Yes, it's frustrating but since I know I'm going to win, it's not much of a problem!

So I just played a game and the opponent knew they were going to loose decided not to make another move. i won yes,But only received 6 points. So how in the hell should I be happy about that? I should've received 8-9 points for a checkmate. So how does that not convert to checkmate points? Oh and BTW I'm not a buttercup asshole!

Another one. The player decided not to play anymore and I lost some more victory points. I'm looking for another online game that will not deal with this bullshit.

With a 455 blitz rating, be lucky you even have points.

There really is  no such thing as checkmate points. You get the same number of points whether you win by checkmate, by resignation or by abandonment.

The number of points depends on the difference between the two players ratings adjusted by how accurate your rating is considered to be. (When you first joined, your rating might have moved by 100 points per game until it got to a level where you started winning as much as you were losing. After that, points change per game got much smaller.)

IMBacon, I don't want anything I didn't earn. I'm not a pussy or a bitch. Nor do I want anything I didn't earn. I don't want nor did I ever ask for a" participation trophy".Get off your high horse!

This entire aborting/resignation/quitting thing is really getting old! If you can't play an entire game without QUITTING then stop playing chess! I have lost many games and I knew I was going to loose before the end of the game. Did I quit hell no. I'm a firm believer in"Even when you loose you learn something"!

Resigning is not quitting, it's respect to you as a player that you have beat them. Be glad and go to the next game.

this is all very stupid and people should just stop responding because players of all levels resign and always will and if you are ahead than you did earn it. and if you think people should not be allowed to do it than you are extremely stupid and should just stop playing chess. because i have seen 1800' s 1700's 1600's1500's and every one along the spectrum resign because it is just nice for your opponent to not waste more of your time. now i recommend that you stop talking about this because you sound more stupid than president trump and nobody wants to be that stupid.
