I agree. Who the hell wants to hear sound in an ad?
Probably the same people who for some reason want to hear actors talk.

Yeah I'm pretty sure in that law that defines what a website can and can't do, playing sounds without your presmission is definitely illegal. chess.coms is gonna get closed in no time.
I hope you all clearly totally agree.
Wait... it's that serious? Of course, I knew that having ads with sound on a website is against the law, but I thought the punishment was only a few fines. But if what you're saying is true, that it could involve the website getting closed, then chess.com is in some pretty big trouble...
@ OP: You can send a support ticket to the chess.com staff, and explain to them the illegality of what they're doing. I'd recommend citing the relevant laws, in case the staff aren't aware. Here's the link for sending a support ticket:
I blame Edison.
I suppose we should also blame Bob Kahn, Vint Cerf, and Ethan Zuckerman.
Ads with sound really cheapen this site and they drive people away. What these ads don't do is make people want to pay a premium when there too many other options out on the internet.
I have no idea about the law on audio ads in your country or even in my own.
But any site that somehow manages to annoy me with audio despite my adblocker will not be visited again.
Same goes for auto-starting videos on a site... I dont mind videos that require me to press a button but if I enter a site that starts video ads without my consent I will simply find a different site, the internet is big enough for that.
Troll topic, started by sockpuppet...nothing of value here.
Breaking the law doesn't bother you?! You want your house robbed?!!

Value is subjective. If there is a joke that I think is funny, but nobody else in the world does, then it has value for me, even if it doesn't have value for anyone else.
That said though, this thread raises a serious issue that needs to be addressed, and thus has value for a far greater number of people.
We're talking about a serious law breach here that needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible under the what a website is allowed to do law.
No mercy on what a website is allowed to do law breachers!
I hear the prestigious law firm of Dewey, Chetem, and Howe are filing a class action law suit right now! If we win, they will get millions of dollars in legal fees and damages. We, the users, will get our c pawn back after QGA.
I have also these ads. Its clearly something with chess.com, i have never heard any ads with sound before, and will not install any ad blockers etc.
Its clearly totally unaccetpable. A lot of people in the forum writes its chess.coms intention annoy as much as possible to make people buy a membership... (must the most stupid marketing strategy in the history of marketing in that case).
This clearly violates what a website is by law alowed todo.
