The ads have cookies which are specifically tailored for the user by what they surf on the internet. Hence why most of my ads are for shoes and cat meds.

Your computer definitely knows you are a young male. :)

Lil-Jon -- I don't think that ad comes from Chess.com. It may be that you have some malware on your computer. Here is a good program to download and run, it will detect and remove malware for you. :)

Let me know how it goes!

Firstly, let me apologize for injecting a serious post among all of this frivolity... Laughing

I watched this podcast a day or two ago and thought it was interesting. It's a one-hour TWIT interview with three developers of ad-blocking software. It discusses pros, cons, ethics, etcetera. If you're interested...

OK, you can all carry on again...

@Lil-Jon,

I should probably add that, while the Malwarebytes people would love for you to buy the Premium Malwarebytes package, the free version is good enough for your purpose. While the free version won't actively help protect you, you can manually run it to see if you have common malware on your system. If you want to try the free version, just click on the small link that says, "No thanks, just download my free trial".

Of course, it's always better to learn how to surf the web safely and not get malware in the first place, but that's a whole different discussion.

I get this too, and I am not trying to look for anything like it, plus I am not homosexual and do not go out with other women!

The ads you're seeing is always based on previous web browsing history on the computer.
Even if you have some kind of a malware, it also will reflect that.
Get a cleaning program, like CCleaner, and run it every once in a while.
Yu can also block out any extensions so that they don't start when you start a browser.
That should take care of it if you don't wish to install an adblocker.

erik

If you are getting adult-oriented ads, or even the one in your screenshot, you are almost certainly infected with some malware which is hijacking our ad code (which doesn't allow ads like that) and replacing it with their own. There are many malware cleaning programs, and I recommend you find one!

Also, I'm sorry about ads!! I really wish that we didn't have them, but at the same time, many people would prefer to see ads than pay for memberships, which is a choice we offer. At the end of the day, we believe everyone should get paid for their time spent working (that includes you, and us!), so unfortunately, until society changes into something different, this monetary system is what we all use to share resources. We (www.chess.com/about) appreciate everyone's support no matter if you are allowing ads, or paying for a membership.
