All The Reasons We Hate V3!

I just noticed that v3 on my iPhone doesn't allow me to make comments in news or vote chess discussions. It tells me that I need to enter a comment when I hit "done".

the V3 App is interesting.. its an upgrade in that it allows integration with forums and such, but its deficient in the same manner.  The V3 app, for example, does not inform me of notifications of forums I'm actively participating / posting in.

I never expected the V2 chess.com classic app to do anything with forums, so I can't say its better or worse.  Its different... better & worse.  :)

Only one vote matters.  erik's.  He loves it so those of you staying better love it too.

That's not true at all, and quite cynical given everything I have posted.  If I didn't care, I wouldn't ask or read. I work hard to solicit and listen to feedback, including watching 45 minutes of your YouTube video which you sent to me that had helpful commentary in it.

V2 isn't going away until V3 is better. And it's not better until almost everyone has decided it is. If a large % of people still like V2, then we haven't done our job with V3 and will keep at it until we have. At the end of the day we won't be able to please everyone, but we want to get as close as we can. And to do that, we listen.

If I hit Done, my comment would be "Sorry your honour, it was self defence". Innocent

@Ronald, I would +1 a few times if I could your comment #362 above.

I know Cmdr_Riker means well when he's urging everyone to get on-board with V3.  Ditto for Batgirl and the rest of the Yes-Men club.

However, the Dissenters (if you want to call them that) that are ardently sticking with V2 and voicing displeasure with V3 are the ones who are doing this site and the users of V3 far more service then any in the Yes-Men club are.

What sort of constructive criticism is, "Ohhhh ya!!! V3 is awesome!!!!  Totally awesome!!! You should all go and switch now!!"  ?

Versus the Captain's first message in this forum... if I were a developer here (looking your way, Martin & david)---Erik included---I would so much prefer to here honest feedback from those that have tried and not liked V3 versus those like solskytz and Batgirl whom only have flowering, everything-is-unicorns-and-rainbows reviews.  Your V3 site isn't going to get any better with Yes-Men telling you your bottom smells of lavendar and myrrh..!

The V2 holdouts are holding out for various reasons.  Find those reasons and figure it out.  Make V3 better.  Sure, you won't please 100% of the populace, but if you can get 80-90%, you've got a winning product (service, site).  Objectively, I'd say you might have 50~70% approval of V3 among normal users: the non-admin types.  Among the admin & power-users, I'd say the approval rate is probably lower, closer to 30~50%.  The normal users may be far more numerous, but the admin / power-users are those creating content and adding the extra spice to the system that makes this site what it is.  I've seen a plethora of sites undervalue the social aspect that made the sites worth frequenting only to destroy said aspect upon renovation.

Did a different Martin post here? I'm not a developer...not even staff, if it was me you referred to. Don't think David is a developer, though he is staff.

The best one can do is use v3 and give constructive criticisms of why something in v3 is worse than the similar feature in v2. Not saying you aren't doing that, just making a general comment.

One could also submit bug reports but I get that many just don't want to do that. I'm on v3 all the time when I'm logged in. I have issues with some things but nothing big enough to make me want to go back to v2. There is only one current bug that I have to get on v2 for and that bug isn't probably something that impacts many people (and I reported it). One other thing that hasn't been implemented too, but I think that literally only impacts me and one other person.

    Earlier in this thread I posted about a culture shock for a lot of members. And I asked if a navigation video could be released for V3. The tone of Eric's comment above implies that he wants to do the right thing and release a good product. Having said that, could a PRE-release video be created to show members what they have now? Who cares if its not perfect, not 100%. The video doesn't have to be perfect either. Just a crude basic introduction for now.  Take the analogy of someone buying a brand new carSmile Most people sit home for 2 days and read the owners manual from cover to cover. But then you have to go out there and play with the knobs, exploring, learning. OHSurprised my car has this! What's that for? etc, etc.

Staff locked it.
