I had to call the vet. That's the reason why i'm up Frown

V3 is a bit dirty.

I agree with the criticisms above insofar as I have encountered only a few of those main issues. What I hate is that my old bookmarks no longer work, and try as I might, I can't get new ones to go to my page.  I have to log in every time.  I think v3 sucks.   I started a new forum called something like "Format changes as of August 2016" about it, but haven't been able to find it since I started it. I won't stay with this system.  If they don't make some major improvements, I'll find somewhere else to play.

My comment would not post.  It wasn't good, but it contained no profanity or other censorship worthy material.  Maybe this time?  Can't find the daily puzzle, lost all bookmarks, can't get it to go to my page, have to log in new every time, Looks stark and amateurish...  Ahh, NOW it shows up.

I don't like v3 TT on ipad.  I have to keep moving screen up and down.  Is there any way to resize the screen?

This new format is AWFUL!!  I don't know how to observe games other than my own.  Therefore, it looks like I'm going to say "goodbye" to chess.com.  I mean ... I looked at every conceivable menu to try to observe games and none of the gazillion menu options take me there.  This site has effectively become totally useless to me.

In case comment by @martin_stahl was not sufficient, here's what you need to do to see other games:

HEY!Yell   In V3 there's a little icon next to my name.Surprised  When I looked it up, the message said, "Eric put a GPS tracker on my account so he knows exactly where I am at any given time". Frown  That's not funny ya know.Embarassed  I still have the ankle braclet that Shaun gave me the last time I got muted, and I get shocked every time I step into the shower.Cry

Possibly. However, most icons, except for the really obvious ones such as the arrows that step through the game's moves, have explanatory help pop-ups which show up once you hover the cursor over the icon.

Have you tried looking at your own profile?

You talking about the site or app?

Or use the My Topics link on the forums. Unless you are using the app, where that option doesn't exist

Several folks have threatened to leave because they can't find features that already exist.  Perhaps there should be better explanations or a video one provided through a link under the "?" icon in the menu

It is on the https://www.chess.com home page, as it used to be in V2, and in approximately the same location:

Here's a quick intro, re-embedded from Introducing The New Chess.com (Version 3)

It may behoove the site owners to step-back once and have a good review of the overall look & feel of V3 and its placement & types of icons used.

Aside from myself, there are & have been several others who have voiced concern over and/or missed what the coders have deemed to be fairly obvious points and features of V3.  There is a disconnect somewhere; enough to warrant comments such as posted here ... with or without the shackles on RJC or the penalty for playing while Scottish in Connor's case.

  • is the layout as intuitive as you had hoped?
  • do the icons (pictographs / kanji / 漢字) make sense to 90~95% of the new users?
  • hover-pop-ups -- not everyone sees those using a tablet / phone.  Can those be counted on to demystify icon confusion?

Slightly different topics:

Everyday, I login with the V3 App on my Android and I see the same entry point; I'm greeted with a game-chat message, "play like a man, dont look for drawish games".  While I've taken the advise to heart, with the classic chess.com app, I was never landed in a chat-message for an online/daily game.  It was either the top-most home page/frame or a game itself.
The slow pace of updates in V3 seems longer compared to what I recall with the classic chess.com app.  It feels heavier, cumbersome.  When I look to the 'forums' section, none of my bookmarked / tracking forum content is carried over from my laptop experience.  Now, that could be because I'm still primarily using V2 on my laptop, but even when I have dabbled with V3 on the laptop, still none of that content interaction seems to carry over bookmark-wise to the V3 android app.  Which begs the question---if the goal is to create a seamless user experience between the V3 app and the V3 browser interface, it is not working as intended in my opinion.  Something still needs to be tied together.  (or, in Connor's case, knit together)  If that is still in-the-works, I'm not sure why the hurry to switch over from V2.

Indeed, many comments / criticisms of V3 are still in process while V2 is on life-support..  .  If I were a staffer, I would re-think the decision to step away from V2 so quickly in-so-far as users are not clamo(u)ring for chess.com to hurry up and trash V2 as soon as possible.  My point?  Step-back and figure out what makes V2 so compelling to those users..!!  There is something or some things that V2 still does better than V3, obviously.  Find those things, those ideas, those concepts and incorporate them in to V3.  Otherwise, this debate will only continue, even after the plug is pulled from V2.
