Annotation System

I'm sure this has been suggested before (perhaps even ad nauseum), but a cursory glance-through didn't show anything.

Chess.com could use a full-on annotation system, wherein members can annotate their own games (and, with permission, the games of another member), and submit those annotations to a central location for each game.

As it stands, each game is processed as an individual unit, for the purposes of viewing it after the game has been completed (for example, I can search for games by David Pruess). It would be awesome if I could, as a member, submit annotations, which can then be upvoted or downvoted, and which would carry my name.

I'll expand more on this later; my time is limited.

Look at the forumpart that's called:'game analysis'. It's almost what you propose.

There's a significant difference between the forum Games Analysis and what I'm proposing. Perhaps I wasn't clear.

In the Games Analysis forum, all game annotations occur on particular instances of the game model. In your post, you can insert an interactive image that displayes the moves as you click-through it, and also displays the annotations. It's cool, but all persons thereafter who want to annotate the game must copy the moves and make their own interactive image to insert their comments.

What I'm proposing is a single, freely accessible instance of the game that allows for annotations from EVERYONE.

Now, there are weirdnesses to consider as far as practical implementation is concerned. There should be some sort of system to remove irrelevant comments (lol i lik this move). There should be some preferential indication on annotations made by higher-level members (say, >2200).

I am sure there is a way to do (correct me if I am wrong) copy the pgn with the annotation, put it in a winboard then you can edit or put your own note in it and save the pgn and post it when you are ready.

cberman

That probably is possible. It's also a hassle.

kco

A hassle ? everything is a hassle.

My suggestion would make the process less of a hassle, AND add functionality that would be missing from a simple copy-and-paste (such as up/down-voting a particular annotation).
