Blindfold chess

Everyone says 'yes blindfold chess is supported on chess.com, other sites etc' yet it is not really.

First, the interface should be better (you should be able to select to just see the coordinates (or even better have them done by audio voice on a phone etc), being able to see the board (even when blank) makes it not really blindfold chess anymore.

Secondly (and more importantly), there is no option online anywhere to play an actual game of blindfold chess. Therefore you will be playing blindfold and your opponent will not, unless you have found someone who has specifically agreed to do this prior to the match. It should be as easy as starting a 5 minute blitz match, you request a blindfold game and then it ensures that both players are playing blindfold. Also you should have a blindfold rating - this is important as the way to play blindfold now on these apps means you are playing against someone who can see the board, and it will affect your normal rating which obviously most people wouldn't want.

These things would be very easy to implement, is there any plan to add something like this? I have suggested it to chess.com (about 4 years ago) and got nowhere. You could also add more blindfold/visualization training tools which would be helpful.

I didn't see any 4 year old thread where you made that suggestion to chess.com.  I did see a post you made in https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/blindfold-chess-app  where a chess.com member @seb_yo had developed a blindfold training app.

It looks like that app hasn't been updated since late 2015, when that thread was posted.

I agree that blindfold could be fun. I don't think that very many people would play it more than once or twice.  I don't think that doing all the work to make ratings available would be necessary.

Hi, firstly it wasn’t a forum post, I emailed chess.com with the suggestion and they said they were looking into it. I think the number of people suggesting it here and lichess etc shows it would be of value, blindfold chess is a reallly useful tool for learning, I don’t understand why you have so many other variants and yet something as simple as this is not supported. Another thing I realised recently is blindfold tactics/ puzzles would be of value

You could play blindfold chess using a voice assistant (alexa, bixby, google assistant) on games like Chess Maven. Heck, you basically have to if you don't have a screen! Play against the computer with only your voice.
