Change in news functionality

So you would you first, perhaps, identify team match, vote chess or forum you wish to send a reminder about... then type message, insert images, etc... As well as pasting members in, comma separated?

Yes, that would solve the problem, but may be a large development effort that other options described in #263.

Maybe we should ask chess.com what would be doable as a fix before implementation of V3....which, realistically, might be 6-12 month away?

unu

Yeah. I agree. I really hope this situation will not go on for more than 1 month.. I mean.. V3 or not, this has to get solved soon. I think there has to be a certain urgency given to this issue and it should be prioritized on staff's tasks list.

JustADude80

It needs to be fixed in v2.

When I have to run v3, I will worry about what works in v3. I have already tried v3 and I could not figure out how to do lots of the things I do in v2. Frown

So far, we have the following recommendations to chess.com and any one of these options could be a great remedy:

1) Temporary, roll back to old functionality for V2 and leave V3 as is
2) Make group name and "view" deep link into actual news item
3) Exclude news (and new vote chess alerts) from "ignore all"
4) Other options to allow admin to send messages to multiple members (using, say, acomma delimited list) like for group invites and tournaments

We do not think it is a good idea to leave news functionality is current (broken) state until V3 is rolled out which could well be 6-12 months in the future.

See post #263, #252, #235, #223 for more details

As many have said, I also think that the previous way was much better. Is this problem occuring in both V2 and V3? (I am in V2)

This problem I think has decreased match participation in my group(s). I post often about TMs, and I feel that more people were reading and joining the matches than now. Many people pay more attention to messages than when they have the click the news button on the group (under alerts... If they had their alerts switched off in the old way, do they still get the messages?), so this obviously will result in less notice of the news post.

VirtualKnightJoakim

Yes, now same functionality (and problem) in V2 & V3. For groups, perhaps most urgent to apply fix for V2??

Robert_New_Alekhine

What worries me even more is the fact that this is happening in v3 as well. The fact that they updated this in both versions of the site makes it look like a permanent change.

If they fix it in v3 all that will happen is that every administrator will start using v3. Hopefully that is what will happen.

mromanian

Robert, wouldn't the members have to switch to V3 as well in that case?

VirtualKnightJoakim

Chess.com could fix by allowing admin to generate news items as PM from V3 as once a PM is sent, it can be read either from V2 or V3. However, it appears chess.com is more inclined to improve/fix news as alerts (rather than rolling back to have them sent as PM).

Even smaller develoment effort, it would appear, would be to roll back code for V2 and allow admin to generate news as PM from V2? (Right now, 99% of admin do their admin work in V2 anyway).

I also endorse VKJ's call to revert back to old news system with PMs.

In addition, in Art of War group we have noticed that all sorts of messaging functions are messed up lately, people.not getting notes or group message posts.

Maybe there is something fundamental that needs repair?

Oliver_Sp

i did not even think this was meant as a permanent change, i thought the news alerts had bug... yes, please change it back to old version!

Chessintheshadows

When I am online and I receive a new "News alert", the New does not appear (I think it's because the creator of the New is editing it). I have missed several important News because of this. It's a terrible bug, where do I have to report it? However, this bug would be roughly fixed if we receive an inbox message with the new.

Good Job Joachim. Old news as PM is what we want

By the way v3 starts to get much better now. But the notification on the right side is not good enough. Therfor um doing most work in v2

FORWARD! ... into the Past!!

Mreuan19

Well it has its flaws but can it be rectifie

SisypheanLife

I totally agree with VKJ and think it would be better to revert back to old news system with PMs.

David-Uy

We need come back to the old system, please staff of chess.com, thank you!

Besides the chess, you need to understand a group activities are a way connecting us from around the world, much powerful than at facebook...without the old news system indeed like without a left hand, I agree with Jim (Bogor) this is extremely difficult for admins to organize a group, I understand you currently paying too many attention on V3, but we didnt ask for more, right? Please do work it out for us, otherwise you are forcing us close down all the groups at chess.com? If this the case I assure 95% members will eventually leave this site, we love being here not just for chess as well as many group activites
