Change in news functionality

I'm sure most of us wouldn't object to a totally new feature, that sends a message to all team members at once, alongside news, if chess.com prefers that.  It could be used for spam, but remember users choose to be part of the teams they are in.

VirtualKnight has done a comprehensive, precise, and meticulous job in making his case, bravo! I agree with all his points and share all his concerns. To chess.com: please, please, revert to what worked fine before, changes are good only if they improve.

Spacebux

Forgive my ignorance of recent changes - is this the same issue where team members are NOT getting notice of Vote Chess matches as well?

I've had two matches with two separate teams where we timed out on move 0 because no one received the message that a Vote Chess game had started.

VirtualKnightJoakim

Good point... that is actually a separate issue which I have reported to chess.com. For each vote chess, where automatic PM no longer goes out (as it does for team matches), I try to remedy by sending out a news item about the vote chess game. But due to the change in news functionality, which this forum is about, virtually no one get to see news anymore.

So you have to invite members individually to vote chess using PMs which is tedious and time consuming.

The VC one cost a lot of timeouts I think!

Spacebux

Well, I am holding off on new VC matches for now.  It makes no sense to even set them up if no one is watching for them to start.

Someone needs to tell the Elders of chess.com to wake the fudge up, the essence of what made chess.com chess.com is quickly degenerating into what I would only describe as the muck pile at a poker table.

Groups (Clubs) are falling apart as members are losing patience and interest.

kenbenton

Sounds like they need to reverse this one and reintroduce the old news system.

I'll go with whatever Jamie D and Commander Riker likes. They know more about the inner site workings than I ever will.Embarassed

I also agree that the changes made to news posts have had a negative result and is no longer a way for recruiting players for matches or posting team updates.

I also would like to see the old News function returned. It is very difficult to get info out to my team now.

SPOT ON!

I said it several times. If chess.com analyze the amount of Online boards on team matches the amount have surley went down.

News alert are always great in terms to remind members and motivate them to join matches.

This new setup are destroying many groups. Many big groups have fallen asleep.

It is much worse now than above statement would indicate as most read message as PM in the way it used to work... you only needed to click on link for online version if you wished to comment.

Now we have to click on several links before you can read the news and from the numbers we can see that people do not do that.

For the note, that '40-50' reads was the entire group. We only had 30 members. xD

TyrantTick

Plus now we have 50 members....10 reads. Compared to 25 members 50 reads!!

jelo-amie

If it aint broke , dont fix it ...

bring back the old news format.

Deathwi5h

We need comment from above!!

Are you a member in Team Platinum?

DoctorStrange

The biggest problem is, members may block you for spamming them with Team match messages. Older system was THE BEST.

DJ_Haubi

Unfortunately chess.com admins propose this possibility of blocking,

also for players who are invited to groups (and who don't want) -

instead of telling them that there's a page called

www.chess.com/home/privacy where you can block all invitations.

This might be off-topic in this thread - but it shows that at least a part

of chess.admin admins supports this principle of blocking - independent

of practical problems. This anti-spam philosophy is also reflected in the

fact that admins without a premium account risk their account if they

use the notes for pushing members to a team match.
