Wow, you have a lot of patience That is one virture I lack and will only go so far in chess :(
Resolved: Chess Computer Thinking ?!
are any of you guys members and does the game stop on move 35? Is this a ploy to get people to sign up?
no rednaz, sometimes it just crashes, and it can be any move. I am not a member and have played games passed move 35 before.
Just close and start again, or even better, play another person!
Sigh.
Will you people please stop with the paying vs nonpaying crap every time this bug comes up? You just like to make stuff up? There is no correlation quite obviously. Don't you think they would tell you that was the reason it stopped if it was to get you to pay? Otherwise there would be no point now would there?
And Clark, there are only about 1000 posts indicating that it stops on move 36 (yes it also crashes at other times but the 36 move demarkation is solid).
I don't care about playing the computer anymore. But I still wish they would fix this ASAP so we can stop with these stupid threads.
I`m a paid member .Thats not the issue.Just wanting to get beeter by playing the computer at a high level. Thanks all for the feed back !
mark100net - and anyone else interested.
I have just played a game to double check this, and purposely made poor moves so to extend the game, and have reached 39 so far and it still hasnt stopped.
PGN below, and I hope this shows that it does not stop on move 36 :)

What's up with not getting your own FREE chess-playing program to use at least when the one here is all (expletive deleted) up? Of course I'm assuming you have your own PC and aren't using one at the library or an internet cafe...
http://www.playwitharena.com/ I don't use it but I believe it can be used with awesome free chess engines such as Firebird, Stockfish and Houdini.
You can also pick up older versions of Fritz or Chessmaster at amazon for bargain bin prices and I know you can add the engines I've mentioned to Fritz, not sure about Chessmaster.

This proves nothing other than that the bug isn't happening with the version of java and browser/OS combination you are running. This doesn't prove that the multitude of the rest of it aren't having it hang on move 36 every single time.
Try updating your java, this works for me whenever I have this issue
No.
I have the java version that comes with the most recent OSX update, which is plenty recent.
The developers need to make the applet work with the jvm version that virtually every OSX user has (which is not to say this bug isn't happening on other systems).
If anyone is that interested in what a CF this applet is just run it with the java console open and watch the fireworks.

We don't need to be told that there are other computer engines out there. Having another engine around is not the issue.
Does it need to be explained to you why chess.com shouldn't have main menu items that are broken without being fixed for weeks (months?) on end?
Moreover, this is the engine that pops up when you want to "finish a game against the computer" or finish a position in the TT. In both of those cases as well, this bug happens after 35 moves after starting the engine.

About installing engines in Chessmaster:
Installation of Winboard engines is simple. However, UCI engines must be installed using a polyglot adapter, which is more complicated.
We've just added a fix for the 'against the computer' issues members have been experiencing.
Can you go into computer chess, look on the bottom right corner of your monitor. Can you click on the java icon then Open Control Panel.
Once this is open, use the bottom box where it says 'Settings' - when that new box opens, click where it says 'delete files'.
Then OK
Once you've done this, refresh the page.
Sometimes the java icon is turned off from appearing in the tray. If you're running windows....
start button/control panel/java/advanced/miscellaneous/check box "Place icon in system tray"
Also try clearing your cache, and even your java cache. see: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/plugin_cache.xml
Then try 'against the computer' for me. If you're still having issues on there can you please let me know in detail whats happening.
Thanks
