Chess Openings's threads need heavier moderating ?

Do you think the Chess Openings threads in the forum need to be heavier moderated ? Some of the threads can be misleading to the beginners.

Tokichiro

The quality of the discussion in the Chess Openings forum is typically pretty poor but that's to be expected when the vast majority of members are relatively new to the game.

It'll never be on par with ChessPub.

That was I thinking of, the ChessPub's style. But maybe in two section e.g. a serious section and an Chess Opening-off topic section.

AsburdinBrazil

Or Chessgames.com.   Clearly a superior website for chess discussion.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of a moderated discussion. I'm sure there are Groups where serious discussion takes place, but the lack of exposure probably limits the scope of the conversation significantly. It would be a nice addition to have such a section here in the main forums...

It was suggested we create a 'beginners forum'.

I wasn't just thinking for just beginners but for the expert as well, I should have added this in my 1st post.

That might be enough to spur more serious discussions.

The problem with a beginner's forum would be that a lot of beginners wouldn't want to post there in order to get the good stuff from more advanced players. Or they wouldn't recognize their sad state as "beginners" and insist on blathering in the general forum.

I don't think there's a way around it.

The point is that learning the next exciting opening line is often

the easiest method used to avoid learning how to actually play the game.

TheGrobe

Well, a feedback system where the community collectively determined credibility with respect to chess theory might be one solution.

I'm amazed there is no beginners forum on his site. Beginners are quite because they don't want to be berated by "experts" for asking "dumb" questions. I would think that this would make people new to the game feel more comfortable asking their questions. I mean, there are over 6000000 members on this site and I don't see many of the most basic questions asked anywhere. I know people that are afraid to ask these types of questions.

I is not affraid to ax tha basic questions.  Like what is better, a Bishiop or a KNight?  And... Who wood win, in a Fischer vs Kasparov match?

Dese is basic questions that people are afraid to ask

I can see it now: Opening for White according to Jar Jar Volume 1 of 32.

RichardBourke

that's an easy one that I'm not afraid to answer. Fischer would beat Kasparov and a bishop is better than a knight!
