Chess.com Improvements

We all know that Chess.com is the #1 place to go for chess action. But even considering that fact, it still needs improvments. That's where you guys come in. If you have any suggestions, post it on this forum. Let's together make Chess.com indeed the best chess community on Earth.

On Live Chess, you can choose whether to play rated or unrated against the COMPUTER!

2- u need to be able to change ur username back unlimitedly like the password.

great website, but needs improvment

second suggestion sounds unnecessary and sounds like it could cause issues.

Layout. The websites layout can sometimes be questionable, other times be atrocious. I mean, why does the home have so many doubles of buttons found under other areas? It says "Home" not "everything that is over there". Heck, it took me a week just to see that selection because it is off over to the side in something of a strange place.

Another minor not-really-an-issue is something that Chesscube has that I actually enjoy...not that I enjoy many features on there. When you play a game and make your moves in the opening, it automatically shows you what opening is being made. This could easily be implemented on here with the option of turning it off. Yes I can find it elsewhere in the site, but it would be a nifty little feature just to look to side while playing and see "OH, so THAT'S the dragon!".

Finally, while I don't play this variation I have seen more than a few topics regarding it:

Blindfold Chess

It would be simple. We can create custom games anyway. So why not have the option to completely remove the pieces from the board in LIVE games? You can do it in Chess Mentor (and perhaps you can do it on here..but I didn't see it in the options menu on LIVE) after all. Both players would have to have it selected for it to be blindfold chess to avoid any complaining from the community, if only one player has it selected then only he or she is playing without seeing anything.

Moderately simple to implement I think, no?

dang boy

in a lot of 'video lessons' you are required to 'pause' the game, but then an annoying 'pause/ play button' appears right in the middle of the screen, so you guys from chess.com should somehow alter the video player not to show this ....

also, when I use the 'finish the game vs computer' mode....I can only choose out of 4 type of chess-pieces...none of them truly satisfying to me....

so....get rid of the 'pause/ play' buttons when you actually pause an instructive video + more available chess-sets in 'finish vs. computer' mode.

Yeah. 960 in Live would be cool

They have Blindfold Chess

live 960 chess would be a great improvement + also afterwards computer analysis of the 960 games...

learningthemoves

Another vote for live 960. As it is now, it's too tedious to find 960 players using challenge chess.

*I also am a big fan of that feature the other site has where it automatically shows what the name of the opening and variations are in the notation while you're playing live.

That would really add tons of value to the experience here.

binblaster

@Phylar you can already play blindfold chess by using the blindfold pieces in settings.

I would like tactics trainer to be improved - no rating loss when I get a problem right but take too long.

hobyF

As a new member still learning, I also feel that the feature showing the name of the opening would be very useful.  It would help us learners get more familiar with the openings (it will take me a while to learn and recognize them all, so this reinforcing tool would be a great asset).

netzach

On live-chess this site it is I believe forbidden to use explorer or other databases so unnecessary to identify opening except for those who have 'memorised' lines?

In that case would probably recognise it instantly anyway...

Here at Chess.com theme based tournaments and matches took a big hit 3 months ago and hasn't been fixed yet!  Read this:

@Dark_N_Stormy_Knight- We are working on getting the search feature fixed for tournaments.  I've reported the issue to our team- so we are aware of it. The search feature does seem to be working fine in Team Matches.

balravens5

@jac1yn: Can add you add 960 to live chess?

I am interested in solitaire chess. Most chess teachers tell us that the best way to learn is to go over master games and solitaire chess is a fun way to do this. I now have a free software program Guess the Move that enables me to do this and also chessgames.com has a solitaire chess feature. But I think it would be more valuable to have chess masters annotate the moves in the games rather than just telling us if our choices are good or bad.
