Custom Trophies

Now I am a super admin / admin in loads of groups on here and I am always running tournaments within the group itself (no not team tournaments but like ladder tournaments etc)

Currently you can only send someone a trophy by clicking on their profile OR if they place 1st 2nd or 3rd in an actual tournament.

I want to have the option to send out "custom trophies" to members within my teams.

I think this would be a great idea because then it gives these contests more meaning and something to play for.

That sounds like a good idea!

Its aways more inspiring to participate if you know there is something worth playing for. A customized trophy would do the job and be a good incitement for the players.

Completely agree Donna, any admin should be able to distribute trophies to fellow group members for internal acheivements.

I recently asked Kohai for a bunch of new trophies could be added to their list.. trophies suitable to give to admins.. e.g. Top Job.. and also a Welcome trophy for admins to give to new members who join one's group, plus a variety of others, e.g. Deepest Sympathies, Just For You, Thinking of You, and some others.. Kohai had a bash at a couple but they weren't flash, admittedly by her, and said I am welcome to create the trophies if I wanted as she was struggling to find the time to create the one trophy per month that she was initially supposed to be doing... I said I would... One of the trophies also was going to be a Cup Trophy, which would just say Congratulations, so the giver could send whatever message they wanted with it.. e.g. Congratulations on coming 1st in the Best Nut Tournament.

So if you mean you just want one plain cup trophy for you to add your own message donna, then I am already taking care of that... I think this would be much better than nothing.. or is it that you want to each time create your own different specific winner etc. trophy with a different  graphic?

This is the trophy I created for  the TM Championships and is the base trophy I use for Nuts tournaments.. so was thinking of using the same trophy but without any inscriptions on the trophy, only saying CONGRATULATIONS as the trophy title and everyone can write their own message...

I have another trophy, and prefer this one...

Your first idea is a brilliant one yes but wouldn't it be awesome if we could actually change the graphics on them to suit different groups / contests because I know that there are some groups on here who do a "picture of the week" and they run that contest.

I think allowing graphics to be changed opens the door for 'anything' to be uploaded.. not sure if staff are keen to allow that.. I recall they did object to that when I initially brought up the same idea a while back...

My counter argument to that is, that anyone can upload 'anything' now in private messages, so it's no different really... and everyone is always able to report anything they deem as abusive/inappropriate if they so choose.

Sent trophies already have a message attached, so I don't see a real need to change the graphics for those.  I think the original concept of expanding the set of available static trophies to include ones for admin / organizer roles is a great idea.

Edit: that wasn't the original concept, which was to add them for contests etc.  Both are great ideas. 

Dave, you are talking about tournament trophies.. we are talking about being able to send trophies for team match victories, ladder tournaments, etc... a cup trophy for any victory... 

Potential for abuse is never a good reason to quash an idea outright.  Understanding the risks, and taking reasonable measures to mitigate them is prudent, but pretty much every feature of this site can be (and is) abused.  If you never did anything because some unscrupulous users might misuse it there wouldn't be any functionality here at all.

Well I have proposed the idea before, I 'think' you even posted in the forum, earlier this year...

I primarily wanted the opportunity to have the flexibility/freedom to create our own games/fun trophies for any subject matter.. at the time I had made other requests for other features to be added to the site.. one being that we are advised who the initiating admin is for team matches.. I also spoke with a staff member privately following that forum and he told me this feature will be added and was added, but that the custom trophies feature was not a priority feature to be considered, or something along those lines... in other words you can have this feature but not that one. But who knows, maybe in the future staff will grant us this request... not an optimist for nothing :p

I guess there is nothing stopping anyone from creating trophies.. you need to send them to Kohai and if she approves them will no doubt upload them for anyone to use.

There are size specifications though.. let me find the specs she gave me.

I think creating and awarding custom trophies would be great fun. However, it would be yet one more thing chess.com would have to monitor.

I can think of some trophies for using Bird's Opening that might be suspect.

They don't really have to monitor it.. if anyone is sent an abusive or inappropriate trophy they can report it.. staff can then take action...  and they are willing to NOT monitor everything.. now in Live chess there is an uncensored/unmoderated private chat room... thousands of people will be flicking through the pages of the trophies so if anything seems very inappropriate for the site I am sure 'someone' will report it..

 I support the idea. This is a pretty creative community. I think it would be great fun.
