day plus time limits

What do you think of giving an option to have a maximum amount of days per game in a tournament?  For example, i would have a 3 day per move tournament that would have a maximum time limit of 150 days per game.  Possibly sub-options that would allow how victory/draw is scored after said time limit.  But since it would be an option, people wouldn't have to join in the tournament if they didn't want to, and people who didn't want years to go by before a tournament ends.  Maybe this would help out the massive amounts of tournaments that are 99% done.

Its a tricky issue - how would you resolve the games after the time control had ended?

SuperBlunder

that would be part of the sub-options; you could have whoever is up in points, or whoever has taken less time, etc.  i think points would probably be best, because then you could have the ability to score draws easier.

'points'?  You mean a simple material tally?  That would be a bit silly.

Perhaps just get fritz to judge it

SuperBlunder

that would do, or perhaps whoever moved last wins like with other time-outs

MAttos_12

lol - that doesn't really make sense, I mean, in 'normal' timed games the person who runs out of time does so because they used more time than the other guy.  If it was a case of 'who moved last' the winner would just be the person who didn't have a job and could just sit at home and wait for the time control to come near!

Fritz analysis would be fair +/- 1-1.5 would be a draw, and anything else a win for either side.

If its 3 days per move and 150 days max, then once it gets below three days, time per move is bumped down to 1 day, below 1 day left,  time per move becomes an hour, etc. That way someone loses on time.

MAttos_12

again, that seems to favour the guy with ni life!  What if the game ticks over to one hour/per at 10am your time and you have to be at work?

Surly a simple adudication by human or computer would in infinitly more fair?

MAttos_12

ah yes, your thread is much better!  The current situation whereas, for example, in one tournament i'm in one player scored 0 points but still managed to hold up the tournament by a whole month is somewhat irritating!

Seleucid

Adjudication is the WAY TO GO.

LSS has TLs available for matches sort of like the one you proposed - but each player gets a certain # of days (could be 150 or less). So there should rarely be any need to adjudicate because as usual, only one player runs out of time before the game ends.

Giving a total # of days for the entire game sounds bogus to me, but if other peeps like it I don't see why they shouldn't be able to play with that TL

PS: Where's the nimrod who's always complaining about premove?
