Disconnection :

What do you think of the person who disconnects often in a game? I think it should be considered the disconnection, as a loss.

The problem is how to distinguish the people who lose their connection for reasons completely beyond their control from those who disconnect deliberately without resigning when they are losing.

What is your foolproof method?

it is not (quite) the same subject, but what infuriates me is when an opponent disconnects or ceases to move - and I receive the message about not leaving in mid - game (which i never do), together with an implied threat of disbarment from play. This has happened to me 4 times today alone. Surely they can tell which is the guilty party (and if not, they should not post such messages)

I used to be bothered by convenient "disconnections" or prolonged stalls in the past (the latter being the most annoying of the two); but these days it makes no difference to me.

notmtwain is quite right about the basic problem of distinguishing between deliberate player disconnections and disconnections caused by genuine connection issues. Therefore, I no longer expend any thought on people who would use such "tactics".

I typically play Live Chess with a time control of 30 minutes per game--which means I run the risk of potentially wasting precious minutes of life to disconnections or stalls. However, that's not really the case in practice. If my opponent deliberately disconnects or stalls it gives me an opportuity to use that time to find more deeper lines. And should they change their mind and reconnect (and many do), chances are they'll lose the game since more than likely they will have done something other than focus on it; otherwise I'll win by default and have broadened my chess knowledge.

Oh and not to mention: when I'm done looking at ways to improve my chances of victory, there's always house chores, projects, drawing, anime, video games, Skype, YouTube, working out, homework, streaming, music, karaoke, bonsai tree, etc. etc..

Obviously, there is disconnection and disconnection. But I thought for weaklings, which disconnect to see a chess software to find the solution.

Did you know that the game pairing software was changed several months ago to pair frequent disconnectors with other disconnectors?  That seems like a good solution to me.

kay,

Nice to see your moderate and reasonable views have not changed. How's it hangin'? I've been "hors de combat" recently - had an injury and been in hospital.
